I've heard it said several times that, aside from medicine, there are more published works on magic than any other subject. I would like to find a source for this piece of information.

I've always heard it as books on conjuring were the most numerous of all books about hobbies.

I'd like to see if someone comes up with a source for this as well. I'd be shocked if magic is the second most written about subject. Besides medicine, look at all the books on computer-related topics, food.

However, as landmark said, I wouldn't be surprised if it was top or second in hobbies.
