Here is a quick question that I just submitted to RNT2 on their site, and I am hoping that someone here might like to chime in [pun intended ] based on their experience.
Greetings I have a quick question about the ringing qualities of your steel cups. Do the Johnny Paul cups "ring like a bell" like the Bells of St. Mary's cups (since they are both made of steel), or do the Bells of St. Mary's cups produce a prettier sound, perhaps due to their shape? Also, which type of wand do you consider produces the most pleasing sound when tapping the cup, ... a wooden wand such as the Mahogany Magician's Wand or... the Convertible Break-Down Wand with Redheart & Walnut Tips, ... or a metal or metal-tipped wand such as the Convertible Break-Down Wand outfitted with Brass Magnetic Tips or the full brass Joe Porper wand? I would guess that the metal or metal tipped wands would produce a sharper, louder ring vs the wooden wands. Thanks William Case "Bapu" on the Magic Café

Bapu:
You ask some good questions......I think a performer would need to have both sets up cups or at least have used both sets you refer to in order to answer your questions. I had the Bells of St Mary's cups and they were great........I'm guessing that the Johnny Paul Steel Cups would have a different sound because of their construction. Personally, I would NEVER use a steel tipped wand with metal cups........it will beat them up.......I use wooden wands with my cups...and the best I have found is this one...it's a thing of beauty and highly recommended... http://www.porperoriginals.com/new%20pic......wand.jpg |
