I have been really digging into my Bobo recently (making some corrections and notes in the margins). I suddenly realized in the midst of my reading that I had no idea what "J. B." stands for. Does anyone know what his full name was? I don't believe it's mentioned in the book, but I could be wrong. Thanks! I am just curious.

Jeff,
He might have used his grandfather's name Jean (his middle name might also be found in the book). Because of people mispronouncing their last name, his grandfather or father had it changed from Beaubeaux to Bobo, but I guess you know that. Regards, Tony |

Doesn't anybody know his name? I thought for sure one of you coin guys would know. In the book they do say that his grandfather's name was Jean Beaubeaux, but they always refer to the author as "Bobo". Strange.....

Whoa! I was just wondering about his real name 2 days ago as I was getting into the car and looking at my book. Strange you guys should post such a topic... Creepy in fact. Lol.

Perhaps that's all it is. My dad's name is J.C.--it doesn't stand for anything, it's just J.C. Could be the same with Bobo (I doubt it, but it could be).

I read somewhere that Bobo changed the spelling of his name from "Beaubeaux" to "Bobo" because English-speaking folks were mispronouncing it as "boo boo."
Seems he opted for correct pronunciation over correct spelling.

Yes, that is found in the brief biography at the beginning of Modern Coin Magic. However, they don't explain what "J. B." stands for. Perhaps what Great Scott suggested is true; maybe it doesn't stand for anything. But surely someone must know what it stands for (if anything)! I wish someone could figure it out.... |
