Not sure if they're golden or not, but I could recommend just about everyone:
1). Get your active repertoire down to less than 10-12 working pieces. Be amazing at what you do and remember that "less is more." 2). Start a dream journal and carry a pen and notebook with you everywhere. When creativity strikes, I want you to be ready. 3). Develop a sense of style and personality that is uniquely your own - be 1 of 1, the whole world loves a character! 4). Don't be afraid of failure in life, but do your best to welcome it. This is especially important for those involved with the performing arts. 5). Create something...I don't care what it is! Write something too, the topic doesn't matter. Share something beautiful with the world...GIVE YOURSELF AWAY. 6). Don't ever stop learning...and remember to move! 7). Tell your friends, family members and those closest to you that you love them and appreciate them every day. Don't let a day go by without them knowing this. 8). Do your best to stay humble and remain grateful. NOTE: It's easy to be grateful when life is good and everything is "peaches & cream" and though a lot more difficult, I think it's even more important to be grateful when things are hard, when life is challenging and the chips are down. 9). Love others and be quick to forgive. Anyone can be mean or hold a grudge...destroy your enemies, turn them into friends and allies! BE BIG!!! 10). Focus on your art, but don't let the other stuff slide. Have interests that extend beyond all of this and remember to take care of yourself. More than 5 things and not all of them are applicable to *just mentalists*, but I feel they're all important and apply to what we do just the same. Yours, JF

Jerome, regarding your #9, it brings to mind what a mentor of mine shared with me about grudges: holding a grudge is like taking poison and expecting the other person to get sick. Great suggestions for a healthy, happy, and prosperous life!
Thanks for everything you've shared in your life, thus far! Best, David |
