Following some other posts this weekend I began cataloguing mentalism type effects for which it must be known that the performer is a Mentalist (the focus) rather then those in which the Effect predominates and the performer is secondary. My favorites are those in which the volunteer is “the hero.”
At the top of list is an effect I call “Falcon Eye” in which one volunteer reads the mind of another. I believe it was once commercially available as “Eye of the Hawk” though I perform it differently. I do not recall ever seeing the method in print. How many here perform effects on this nature – ones in which the performer (you) are neither the sender, receiver nor operator of the mentalism demonstration? More importantly, are such effects considered more or less “entertaining” by an audience that those in which the performer is demonstrating some “special ability?”

How about anything in which the audience "organises" themselves into a pattern.
I know the performer needs to make some form of prediction but I recon this could be played in such a way that it fits the requirement. Hmmmm Early on in the show a volunteer talks about a key date in their life... Maybe wedding date This date is then referred back to at the end of an add a no routine to successful conclude later on in the show?

My "Ends Of The Line" involves the audience members forming themselves into a pattern.
I envisaged it as the performer taking the credit for predicting the pattern, but there is no reason why the focus can not be shifted to the people correctly intuiting what they need to do. steve |
