In 2009, I was working on a two-deck ACAAN (that became the bonus routine of this ebook) when the italian magician Tommaso Guglielmi shared his new creation with me... that was based on the exact same method! He spontaneously gave me the permission to release the basic routine with my name on it and now, more than three years later, I can publicly say that Tommaso is a real class act! Just below is the basic original routine that the both of us devised independently. Ordinary decks. No sleights. Different outcomes at each performance. It is inspired by Cameron Francis' Convergence.
2D ACAIN: Two decks of cards are introduced. One is placed aside. The other one has numbers on its backs and is placed in front of two spectators. The spectators shuffle the deck and use it to get a secret number each. Thanks to their secret number, one thinks of a card and the other one thinks of a number. The magician deals the cards of the other deck at the number of the first spectator. The second spectator reveals his card. The card on the table is turned over: It is a perfect match! Bonus Effect - DIVINACAIN: One deck of cards made up of two sets of 26 cards with a different colored back is introduced. The blue backed set is placed aside. The other one has numbers on its backs and is placed in front of two spectators. They use the red pack to get a secret number each. Thanks to their secret number, one thinks of a card and the other one thinks of a number. The magician tries to read each spectator's mind and writes something down onto his business card. The spectators reveal their card and their number. The magician displays what he has written: They match! So the divination was correct but what if he had been able to predict the outcome and had placed one card at a specific number in the other pack? .. The magician deals the cards of the other pack at the number of the spectator. The other spectator says his card again and the last card is turned over: It is a perfect match! I also include a variation in which the magician apparently guesses the wrong cards but when they are turned over, it turns out the magician is right. It is inspired by John Bannon's "Detour de Force". It is available from me ( r.czaja@libertysurf.fr ) at the special price of $5 instead of $8. Best, RAPH

I have seen this effect. It is easy and deceptive at same time.
Maybe, it is one of the best ACAAN variant with 2 decks. |

Review: 2D ACAIN by Raphael Czaja
Raphael Czaja consistently creates some fine magic and yet seems to fly under the radar of many. That's both a good and bad thing. It's good because those of us who have added a few of Raphael's effects to our repertoires know how well his effects play. It's a bad thing however because Raphael's magic is worthy of wider attention. So let's get to Raphael's latest e-book titled 2D ACAIN. Here are the unedited effect descriptions: 1. 2D ACAIN: Two decks of cards are introduced. 2. DivinAcain: One deck of cards made up of two sets of 26 cards with a different colored back is introduced. The blue backed set is placed aside. The other one has numbers on its backs and is placed in front of two spectators. They use the red pack to get a secret number each. Thanks to their secret number, one thinks of a card and the other one thinks of a number. The magician tries to reads in each spectator's mind and writes something down onto his business card. The spectators reveal their card and their number. The magician displays what he has written: They match! So the divination was correct but what if he had been able to predict the outcome and had placed one card at a specific number in the other pack? The magician deals the cards of the other pack at the number of the spectator. The other spectator says his card again and the last card is turned over: It is a perfect match! There is also a variant of this effect inspired by John Bannon's superb effect titled Detour de Force from his book Smoke and Mirrors. Okay you've read the effect descriptions and you know now that we are dealing with an ACAAN type effect. At this point, you will read on because you want to know if this is worth your time, or you will skip off to the Not Very Magical But Still section of The Café and get involved in the Unwinnable Arguments thread. (Note: they are afraid to tackle argument number six). Glad some of you are still with me. We magicians talk a lot about "holy grail" effects and ACAAN and Stewart James' 51 Faces North are frequently mentioned. If you know your Arthurian legend, you know that the search for the grail is grueling and that it is never actually found. But it is the quest - the process - that is important and many magicians continue the journey and I am glad of it. We have seen many approaches from the fabled Berglas effect to efforts from many prominent magicians and many soilutions are elegant and have found their way into the working repertoires of others. Raphael's effects are wonderful explorations of the plot. Raphael credits Cameron Francis' Convergence as one of his inspirations for these effects as well as John Bannon's effect in the variant of the bonus effect. Tommaso Guglielmi has also endorsed Raphael's work and Tommaso is perhaps the most tenacious and intrepid explorer of the ACAAN plot I have ever known - that's a GOOD thing Tommaso! The review copy I have is nicely put together and the explanations are clear. French is Raphael's first language but his English descriptions are quite clear. There aere a few grammatical errors in the text but none of them prevented me from working through the methods. The errors really have more to do with the vagaries of English. Raphael has informed me that he has had the e-book edited and the minor errors have been corrected. Raphael, you write much better than many native English speakers but it says a lot about you that you took the time to correct these minor errors. This characteristic of attention to detail is also evident in Raphael's attention to explaining method. The explanations are thorough. There is a one time arts and crafts moment that requires a sharpie pen and 15 minutes of your time and then you are set for as many performances as the pack(s) can handle. The effects straddle magic and mental magic and the procedure appears very fair to the spectators. I like both effects but I realize that some magicians want to conserve pocket space so, I would advise doing the one-deck bonus effect DivinAcain. I would also advise you to at least give the Detour de Force variant a shot as well. If you are into effects like Convergence, the ACAAN plot, or perhaps you are new to both and want to take a little foray, can rest assured that Raphael's work is a fine exploration. There is no sleight of hand and really no memory work involved. Job well done Raphael! |

I really like all the explorations on ACAAN theme, also using two decks, that Raphael did, not only in this latest great ebook, but also in his previous beatiful "SCAMP" and in "Acocavan".
Vlad did here a good and complete review, so I just want to say in addition that "2D ACAAN" such as previous Raphael's work could also be considered as good food for our brains! I read it all and liked so much ... I had some ideas about another way to perform the effect and I have just sent an email about this to Raphael. hoping he will like it. Keep doing your great job, Raphael!. Biagio
