The Dancing Butterflies was put out by Uday Magic some years back. Does anyone know of a source for the butterfly packets? They are like a snowstorm pack, but with die cut paper butterflies.

Alan wong makes the best butterfly paper from what I understand. Jeff McBride uses them so that should tell you right there.
I used them in the past but primarily stay with my original snow storm routine I have performed for over a decade. hocus pocus sells the butterfly storms that you want. I think they are like $15 a packet. just google hocus pocus magic and then use the search on there online store for butterfly. if you need any other info or help let me know. sam

Here is a link to Murphy's description onf the butterfly packets. They don't sell to the public but Dennis Loomis (a Café member) can get them for you.

Just make sure you go through the packs and separate them. The Butterfly ones tend to stick together, so riffle them, or (time consuming as it may be) take apart & re-stack them.
Everybody wants to beleive.....we just help them along.

Thanks all. That was exactly what I was looking for. They are already on order now. Sam, when you said they were $15 a packet, I started rethinking this -- as I plan to use this in shows all this summer. However, they are actually $15 for 12 blizzard packets. So, not too bad.

LOL yes $15 for the packet of 12. sorry for any confusion.
might I make a few suggestions. one just as the mighty fool mentioned you will need to take the packets apart and then reassemble them. at least the older versions you needed to do this. I have not used them in over a year so don't know if Alan has made them any better. either way here are some tips 1-dont try to retie them just use a small strip (maybe 1 inch wide)of colored tissue paper to wrap around the reassembled packet and use a small piece of tape to hold it together. 2-to make this more spectacular with having to use a second packet of expensive butterflies use half a packet of colored snow storm or even better white snow storm as that will make the butterflies color POP better. this will also make the illusion seem more grand 3-make sure you have a really good script - a fun story to go with the routine. the end result is important but with some thing like this it is all about the journey leading up to the final moments. let me know if you need any help or have any other questions sam

Much appreciate the tips. Once I have the packets and get a chance to work with them, I'll see if adding a snowstorm will work for me -- sounds good though. I actually came up with the storyline already, and this trick fits it perfectly. That's why I wanted the butterfly blizzard.

Some confusion. Butterfly Blizzard is a McBride product with a fan, and a very nice addition to any show, I did it this weekend!

What is the confusion?? yes McBride performs a butterfly storm and it is made by Alan Wong. McBrides routine begins with just two butterflys dancing with the wave of his fan and then they come to rest on the open fan. then goes into the rest of the routine producing what looks like hundreds more butterflys flying up in the air.
so what is the confusion if I may ask?? sam

Hi Sam the original post mentioned Uday Magic and "Dancing Butterflies" maybe this is a knock-off of Jeff's trick?
At any rate "Butterfly Blizzard" comes with Jeff's excellent DVD instruction which is key for a trick like this. He traces the history of the trick back to Japan and offers lots of information on setup and performance. I have bought refills from Alan, but not a big fan of supporting the magic knock-offs. |

Bill, I really didn't know the history of this effect prior to receiving Jeff's "Dancing Butterflies" yesterday. But it appear that butterflies dancing over a waving fan is not a Jeff McBride invention. He even traces the history of it. So I'm not sure you can have a 'knock off' of this one. The idea of a butterfly blizzard at the end may be Jeff's though. It appears that the original idea was to have a snowstorm-like effect at the finale'.

Hi billappleton
correct the uday ones are knock off crap. at least they were crappy when I bought them years ago. Alan wong is the person that makes them and these are the ones Jeff uses! not the knockoffs Alan Wong is not making knock offs. so buying from alan you are not buying knock off products. also jeff did not invent the butterfly effect snow storm but has made it a staple in his show for almost 15 years. I remember when he and I were performing in florida about 6 years ago and talking with him about the effect but dang my memory can not recall all the details of what he shared. I do remember him showing my his road case because it converted into his open top table for the show. that was awesome. either way get the alan wong butterfly papers and you will be ok. if they are good enough for Jeff that works for me. I actually perform my original snow storm routine but currently working on a Star Storm for my summer shows. in all aspects the storm effect is awesome when done right! sam

Uday are not a knock off, Uday made and sold them before McBride sold the Butterfly Blizzard effect.
That bring said the 1st generation of butterflies Alan Wong made were the best butterflies any where. Today what McBride sells are smaller and not as good, they are not as pretty and they are kind of disapointing compared to the 1st generation Butterflies Wong made ;-( That all being said does anyone know anywhere that Uday dancing butterfly refills are avaiable for purchase? Having a hard time finding them and have resorted to making my own.

I recall looking for these a while back. They are still listed on the Uday website, but not available in the US it seems. I just sent an email to Uday asking if any dealers in North America carry them. I will let you know what they reply.
