Hi all,
I have some copper coins and brass Okito / Boston boxes that have developed a green patina on some areas. I'm looking to clean the coins but with the following criteria. 1) I do NOT want the coins to be polished. 2) I would like the green patina to come off 3) I would like to be able to clean the remaining ring around the area where the patina was. Advice? Best, Dorian Rhodell |

Mild toothpase using a toothpick in the rim area with gentle cleaning might just do the trick for you

Tooth paste, or cleanser will also clean silver coins, but you may not be able to restore the original luster.
There are many ways to clean the copper coins, but it may still remove more of the patina than you want. Never fear, time is on your hand 1) clean/polish all that you want 2) allow the coin to age through use, or exposure to other chemicals (do a search for aging coins) 3) Arrest the aging by coating the coin with clear nail polish. This will preserve the coloring for years, but will make it a little slippery. John
