Hello everyone.
Being as though this is my first post I shall give a brief introduction. My name is Jason and I am a magician/illusionist in Las Vegas, NV. I perform both stage and close-up magic for various hotel/casinos as well as corporate events. I am, however, looking to add something new (as the corporate world is very cyclical) and offer my show as a fundraiser for various civic organizations. The reason for my post is to pick the collective brain of the magic Café. If any of you have done fundraising shows in the past or are currently doing them I would appreciate any advice you could give. Questions worth answering might include: 1. How long of a show is optimum? 2. What size city to market to? 3. How to structure the deal (who makes what off of the show)? 4. What type (if any) of items to offer in "back of room sales?" 5. Whether or not to use telemarketers. 6. How much money some of you have made doing this? 7. Is there a slow/busy season? Again, thank you for any and all information you could give. As a side note, I've been checking out the boards for about a week now and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I look forward to hanging out and contributing to the Café. Don't forget to tip your waitress, Jason |

Jason,
Since you are an illusionist then you know the cost of illusions and their value to an act. Invest into John Kaplan's Fundraising Magic program. It will answer all your questions in detail and provide you with a pattern for this new and exciting area. I have everything that John has written and produced. It is far better than Stan Kramien telemarketing materials. John's material is intense and requires studying, commitment, and hard work to break into this market. Once you're in and have built a successful niche than it becomes a matter of expansion. In addition to the Fund Raising Family Illusion show, he also provides similar seasonal fund raising programs for Christmas (Magic of Christmas), and Halloween (Stage Fright). John also has an evening Dinner shows (Night Magic) which is a smaller fundraising version for fire companies, and organizations who don't want to go the full blown fund raising route. This can be a comedy show, a small illusion show or a variety show. John prefers the bigger shows where he commands a fee of around $2,500 per show (Varies with optional client choices)with additional backroom sale income in the juice, popcorn, and magic product line.
