Hi guys, I'm looking for some tricks involving a card force. I havent posted for a while after having a break but ive got a small show coming up in a few months and looking to do one trick wth a force.
I know its a massive topic but I guess I'm looking for some inspiration here. Other tricks ill be doing is a prediction inside a locked box with use of the UCCU. Probably card to wallet with UCCU again, or card to page number or something. Transpo of 2 signed cards Homage to homing by Gusteferro, sorry poor spelling Pandora's paradox, Michael Vincent A 4 card pocket transpo Ive performed Kismet a bit by Michael Vincent but it doesn't suit me. I was thinking maybe getting 2 specs to sign the front and back of the same card but I don't really have a presentation yet but might go down that line. Sme inspiration would be most welcome. Hi Deadsets,
It is a massive topic but maybe the question can be answered quite simply. Harry Lorayne considers a force a type of card control and if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. We think of card controls in terms of mechanical actions, but, I sense that Mr. Lorayne's thinking on the force as a control means that the very nature of a force - what it accomplishes - gives you complete "control" of the card(s) no matter what. Now having said that, maybe some fun inspiration would be to think along this line: I know the card therefore I have control of the card. Given these two points, what can I create? What I am doing here is essentially suggesting Vernon's argument is that if you know one good force and twenty different reveals, you have twenty effects. Your idea of having two specs sign the same card is a venerable and powerful effect and Anniversary Waltz is but one example of how strong such an effect is. But, to get you started, I would suggest contacting Steven Youell and getting his two e-books. One deals with the classic force and the other with the Stanley Collins Force. You may already do the CF, but Steven's e-book is still essential reading as is his SCF e-book. And in the SCF book there is a killer effect using the SCF that may be something you would like. Paul Green is a great magician and has done considerable work in this area as well. He is a member here (as is Steven). Paul is a great guy and if I were you, I would PM each of these guys with the question. If you go to Secret Sessions you will find two growing threads titled Book Gems and Classic Periodicals respectively. There are a number of effects there that woukld give you inspiration. One effect I will mention here that I really love is David Regal's "Yes You Can Change Your Mind." You can find it in Apocalypse. Not only is the effect wonderful, but the force used is SO beautiful and it is so fair looking that even if you don't do the effect, I would wager you will find a use for the force itself - it's that good. (I see that you are already doing a card prediction so perhaps the Regal effect would seem too similar but if you have Apocalypse, look it up. Another nice one is an effect in Best of Friends vol. 3 called (Gr)Eight. It's one of those effects that really looks like you have messed up in a Dunbury Delusion sort of way. Maybe the best inspiration would be to snag a copy of Annemann's 202 Methods of Forcing. Just reading the methods may inspire you to create something all your own. Another approach would be to "jazz it." Remember what the force does for you. With a force, I think the more fun question to get your mind running is what CAN'T you do! I realize that my post isn't quite what you are looking for and I didn't want to provide a list that would run for pages and pages. Hang in there as I am sure many will contribute more substantive ideas than I have. Namaste, Vlad PS: Okay, one more plot suggestion: Al Leech's original Red Hot Card Trick, Michael Close's Red Hot Mama, or best of all Whit Haydn's Chicago Surprise. |

Vlad, mate.......this is exactly what I was looking for and I am very grateful for your detailed response.
I just feel at times I struggle to see the trick from the specs point of view and have always thought an unsigned card is weaker then a signed selction. I have done many tricks with the force revealing it in impossible locations but none have ever really clicked for me. As I mentioned above I Had thought it was just weaker then a signed selection but now I'm sure I just didn't sell it enough. I will PM both Paul and Stephen and look into all your other suggestions. I really think I need to get my head around what it is I'm trying to achieve, I mean that sounds stupidI know but card force tricks have never clicked with me. Thanks again Vlad. |

If you're looking for inspiration and deep thought about forcing techniques and applications, I recommend you to buy "libertad de expresion" by forcing expert Dani daOrtiz (seriosusly, I've seen him use the classic force on people how knew he was going to force a card on them), it's in spanish, however I think an english version is coming up in the near future, you can also check Dani's DVDs UTOPIA (these are in english) wich deal with some of the topics on the book and you can get some really good insight on how to use psychology to force cards (have you ever though of forcing a card using no deck at all?) and create the illusion of freedom. If forcing is what you want I don't think you can get better than this

2 Karl Fulves books have chapters on forcing methods and routines: "Ellis Stanyon's Best Card Tricks", and "More Self-Working Card Tricks". There are also chapters in "Basic Card Technique" by Anthony Norman, and "Royal Road to Card Magic" by Hugard and Braue.

Also, "Impossibilia" by John Bannon contains 2 nice effects with a force: "Photologic" and "Oh Calcutta."
In the former, the spec's selected card magically appears on a previously blank miniature piece of photo paper. The latter is a prediction effect that also makes use of billets. |

Thanks guys.
Steve has been in touch already and helped me out, thanks mate. Im looking at getting some skype lessons from him also. Would you believ that in several years of playing with cards ive never met another magician, we just don't have any close up professional magicians in my state, and I live on an island! So I'm pretty excited about getting some lessons. I really am very grateful because within 12 hrs I have good material on forces, loads of inspiration to delve into. Thankyoy everyone. |

Whoa! Looks like you've found some heavy hitters after just a few "years-in". I'm not judging here if you have too many "imposible location" effects for one set or not, but have you considered an Intercessor effect? I never say "Sky's the limit" w/ Man's foot on the moon and all, but well, allot's possible
It's not their senses that mislead, it's their assumptions.

@Donny yeah you are right, my love of the impossible location is a bit over the top. I have a feeling after spending the morning reading I will make some changes. Intercessor effects? You knowI had to look up what you were refering too, but Im on the same page now, haha a bit embarrassing. No I don't know any and have never purchased one of these effects. Would you like to recommend one to me? There are just so many I think I could never decide what to do there.
Just finished reading Steve's Ebooks and they are really fantastic. Ive always been scared to learn the classic force but now I'm champing at the bit to crack into it given I have a perfect out. @Waterplinge, thankyou for these suggestions, I have some of Mr Bannons work so I will deff follow that up and your other suggestions. @AAAL, Dani really intrest me and after I soon purchase Michael Vincents new DVD I will be getting utopia, thanks. Wow I feel really energised and pump to get practicing, but I better get some sleep and tomorrow may the force be with me. |
