Who wrote that if you know 1000 ways to reveal a chosen card you have 1000 magical effects ? It's the same for mentalism.
5 years ago I decided to learn playing electric guitar to present a mentalism effect. And I did it. The effect is about emotions. The guitar is used as a revelator of chosen emotions. Each is revealed by a different style of music. Audience is invited to guess which I try ro reveal as I'm playing : sadness, anger, joy, fear...etc. Then I give details about scenes assiocated to theses emotions. Trying to speak the less possible, asking the participant to confirm if he feels in the music the details of what he has chosen. It's still a work in progress as playing guitar and compose my own music is rather a difficult thing. A crazy project for sure but I discovered the power of music as a magical vector of universal emotions. Here is my wonderful guitar made by Wild Customs Guitars. And yes, it's me on the pictures the day I received the guitar on Hellfest Metal Music festival 3 years ago. http://tinyurl.com/cknpcpz Have you already learned something completely new for you and at first glance far from our art just to try doing things differently ? |

Yes, a musical instrument can be effective in a Mentalism effect. Consider having a spectator "randomly" select a tune form a list and concentrate on it. You then begin to play ...
I have also done this by overhearing conversation in a restaurant and then secretly cuing my wife playing guitar or harp in the corner. Comments of, "How did she know? -- I guess being blind heightens her awareness in other ways." I use a harp in both Mentalism and conjury effects to good advantage (not in the same performance). If using a harp or guitar in conjunction with a multi-bob pendulum excites you, write me at gusarimagic@comcast.net
