So I am working on this trick with a gaffed up reel. It is made of plastic and rubbish.
I cannot find a large enough wooden reel to make one.
Can someone reccommend a solution.

If you know a wood worker with a lathe, he could make one for you.
just typed in large wooden sewing spools on the large auction sitr,
o-bay, and they have plenty of them available.

Perhaps you should also take a look at Michael Paul's "urban legend", available on lybrary.com for example. I used this one in the past and in my opinion it is the best bizarre method, even eliminating the spool.
