Hey all
What stage "book test" would you recommend? Thanks Karsten |

Something where you're describing a paragraph or an entire page rather than divining a single word. One example is the routine on E. Raymond Carlyle's second DVD, "Close Up and Personal". As Carlyle puts it "Why do you need a book just for one word?"

Also just thought of an effect in Terry Nosek's "The Collected Works of Dr. Sigmund Fraud" from the 1980s: He used a large book with a collection of photos from Life Magazine and would describe the image on the selected page and have the spectator show the picture to the audience. With the right photo the picture could be seen by all or most of the audience and could have a nice visual impact. Nosek's book is available online at http://bigfoot-prints.com/fraud.html.

You walk into a public library and ask the spectator to pick fiction or non-fiction.
They make their choice. You then ask them to pick from a genre within that choice. You walk over to that genre and allow them free choice of any book in that genre. While your back is turned they silently turn to any page and mentally select one of the words on the page they are looking at. In the most direct manner possible you reveal their chosen word. As an afterthought you ask them to read the title of the book to you. It is the only book in the section to belong to another section. |

The book is only as good as hour presentation, why don't you figure out what a book test on stage means to you and work from that point. Smoking Kills offered a very nice routine which is not limited to an actual library. Use your imagination and the audience's imagination and get creative.
