Over the years at Penguin, we've learned that our PRO customers (understandably) don't want their name to show up in Google right next to the tricks they perform for a living. So, they either DON'T review, or don't use their real names. This is not as helpful to our community since names carry trust, taste and reputation. So we innovated something I hope you like. It's called "Pro Magician Privacy" and we think it will raise the quality of our service to you.
Starting TODAY at Penguin, you won't see product reviewers' names on our site.. unless you're logged-in. This seemingly simple step means Googlebots and other anonymous crawlers won't see your name on our site, and won't store it in their results, while community members (including the inventors) will benefit greatly from reading your helpful feedback. See what it looks like here: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/2916#reviews It's a small step, but I think it will make a big difference in the long run. Thank you. You make what we do possible and we're grateful for it everyday. Acar |

Wow!
You guys never cease to amaze me! Very cool idea. If I reviewed everything I've ever bought with your company I wouldn't leave the computer. Brandon |

It's nice to see something new on a magic website that isn't a product.

I just googled myself and it took me to that page!
LOL. I'm being silly. This is cool. I just bought some new magic for the first time in 2 years, I was considering reviewing; now I feel more encouraged to. Good job Team Arctic! LokI |

Although I'm guessing a lot of pro's are doing things such as the ambitious card over and over again and not buying the latest toys.
One thing I loved buying at Penguin was the PDF of 'Genii' magazine. Has it been discontinued? I notice the April print edition is up but no March PDF.

Pure genius!
Although it is standard practice for most serious websites, there are plugins available. But congratulations on coming up with the idea and letting us know about it. I'll be sure to pop over to your site through the link you posted here and look at the new review format! If I have any additional feedback I'll come back here and post about it. Thank you again for letting us know about the new way you're formatting the customer names in your product reviews at Penguin Magic. DD Quote:

A bunch of people are now going: "Why didn't I think of that?"
Brilliant idea.

Hmm, what about the people who are quoted in the product description? I imagine they would still come up in a search.

Great question, gdw.
I think the names in product descriptions are more like endorsements. They are always asked for permission first, with a clear understanding that they'll be seen. Plus, descriptions of many magic products are on dozens of websites around the internet, so as Penguin we'd have no control over that aspect of it anyway. |
