Now "THIS" is what I call a fan!
A young man named Martin had me create an Octopus (that he named Fred the Octopus) for him a couple weeks ago and as we all know, balloons don't last forever. So his mother painted him a Fred the Octopus Shirt to keep Fred's memory alive once he finally passes into the hereafter! Awesome!

Hah! That's so cool Really cool Octopus, too, by the way. I'm still so jealous of you pros who can do these things. Last night I finally got it to where I can consistently make my two balloon Spider-Man without popping or running out of balloon before I get to his second elbow, lol... so my hat is off to you and the others with things like this.

TKD27,
I would say that an Octopus would be far easier than a Spider Man to make. Get four 260s and blow them up (curled), split them half and lock them all together. 4 balloons make 8 legs. Take a round balloon and inflate and lock it into the joint where the legs all meet. Inflate two 5" rounds and tie together and then lock around the large round balloon. TaDa! Instant Octo in less than 3 minutes! BOOM!

Hmm... that sounds easy enough. Right now I'm just using 260s, but maybe I'll buy some of those other funky balloons next time. How do you curl the balloons, though? I know how to create "elbows" by pinchin the air out while the balloon is bent and then releasing the pinch. Is it the same concept for the curls? I'm a real beginner, lol...

Hi TKD27,
To spiral a 260 balloon, fully inflate it, then let the air out. Now, spiral the balloon around your fingers, a pen, a dowell... anything round(ish) and inflate the balloon again. As the balloon inflates around the object, it will form a spiral shape. You inflate first, then deflate, to make the inflation around the object easier to achieve. Regards Baz |

Does that have to be inflated by mouth, though? I can't even mouth inflate a balloon that deflated, lol.

You can do it with a floor pump, you can do it with a hand pump its just a little harder and will require more thought.
What you'll need is an area (like a dowel) to wrapped the balloon around and hold it in place while you infalte it. You wrap the balloon around a chair leg or other such item then take another 260 and tie it around the end of the first one, take the original 260 (the one you'll spiral) and wrap it around the leg and then inflate. It takes a few tries before you get it right but its doable.

Hi TKD27,
I use a floor pump - because I can't inflate by mouth. I have a Filbert pump (see thread about identifying a pump in a video). It would be more difficult with a hand pump, but if you have a hand pump, you can use the kids you are performing for, and wrap the balloon around their hand... The floor pump needs one hand to inflate a balloon, so I hold the balloon wrapped with my other hand. Your Mileage May Vary (YMMV) Regards Baz |

This is why I think my two-balloon Spider-Man is easier, lol. Now I'm trying to master the basic two-balloon flower so I have at least one balloon for each gender (and since two-balloon Spider-Man is also two-balloon Hulk, that actually makes three balloons I can do (without counting the poodle and all its variations))
