So, yesterday, I took part in a small challenge to write a tweet-length play... in other words, a play in under 140 characters. Writing something that short, that actually tells a story, is an awesome but challenging exercise. I wanna see you writers out there try your hand at writing a short story, play, whatever in less than 140 characters. Here's the one I wrote yesterday for the Playwrights Guild of Canada, just to get the ball rolling.
(A jewelry shop) 1: I’d like to return this. (Places engagement ring on counter. 2 picks it up.) 2: Certainly. Anything wrong- 1: No! 2: … With it?

Probably an urban legend, but one story about Ernest Hemingway bet that he could write a story story in fewer than 10 words. He had words to spare with:
For sale: Baby shoes. Never worn.
"Torture doesn't work" lol
Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Hemingway is great because he's so darn SUCCINT. And I've heard that story many times. Love it.

The ultimate succinct message had to be the trilingual pun by Catherine Winkworth in Punch in 1844. Charles James Napier was leading troops in battle in Sindh province in India (now in Pakistan). Winkworth drew a caricature of Napier and gave the caption "peccavi"--Latin for "I have sinned".

Marie Antoinnette's last words, upon accidentally stepping on her executioner's foot on the gallows.
There are many interpretations, and I KNOW many of you will google them, but in the ones I'm familiar with, they meet the OP standard of one hundred-forty characters. "Pardonnez-moi Monsieur."

If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Just like a tweet, the source of the word would be known, giving extra information. In the magazine the identity had to be given in a different way.

I never bought into the speculation that a certain newish poster was M**** S**** under an alias but this proves it - wild horses couldn't have kept him from this thread. With that in mind...
