My girlfriend and I just got a dwarf rabbit, and I would love to work him into my act. Money is really tight, however, and I highly doubt I will be able to afford a high quality prop for another year. In the meantime, is there a low-cost production method that will be just as comfortable/safe for my rabbit? I don't want his comfort or safety to be compromised by a cheaper effect.
Thanks, Matt

Matt,
Consider doing table steals. They usually only require a little sewing for the holder and work fine for small animals that will stay put. Classics are hard to beat for audience reaction. |

Matt, rabbit productions are not cheap, and Bob's production idea may be the less costly method. You can purchase a very nice ready-made rabbit bag from Magicsax that will cost less than any box I know of.
There's also the Eric Sharpe Rabbit Hat Production, but of course you will need a top hat for that. Any of the method will require some silks too!

I can vouch for the hughes bag,,, I have 2 of them, these are great load bags,,, thomas clarks delivers from top, Richard hughs delivers from bottom. clarks bag would be like a rabbit coming from the top of the silks, Richards would be like ( picking up scarves, barely touching table with bottom of scraves and BAMMMM a dag gum Rabbit, I have a 5 pounder come from Richards... if order from richard ,,, specify your critter load, his will produce oranges potatoes and rabbits,( Not at the same time) LOL, but if you want the smooth and very smoothest type method ask him for version 2 ....

For anyone else reading this thread, I no longer make a rabbit bag (it's been a year), so that should let you reference where to get one.

Thanks for the input. I was about to share the news that Thomas quit making his, but it looks he beat me to it. I have been looking at a few methods from my Tarbell's. I appreciate the suggestion on Richard's bag, but I don't know that my budget can even afford that (college kid!). Do any of you have references regarding table steals aside from Tarbell?

Matt... save your cash and get the bag,,, most safe and tested method, the stuff in the books is great, but great during its time, these days, we take a lot of pride in the safety in the preoduction of our critters, So in todays time, safety is high priority and these new methods are tried and tested to the nth degree, Save your college cash, you wont regret it, and will be proud to own the bag. BUT... I do understand your dilemma. . I wish you the best in your efforts.

So what looks like it would be "Cheaper" because it is only a cloth bag, is not really. I would suggest not getting a rabbit, as it looks like you cannot afford to care for it properly either. Cage, food, and vet bills are much more then the materials for a trick. Stay in College, get a good GPA, and get a job that will let you support your girl friends and hobbies. |

I already have the rabbit and a lot of magic equipment. I have been performing since I was six, so it really is just an issue of the bag. It's not that I cannot afford the Richard's bag, I just don't really have the money budgeted for something in that price range with our other expenses, such as vet bills.
