So I will be attempting to build a Cardiographic Pad from watching Making Magic by Martin Lewis.
I have the pads of paper, Metal piece and everything else needed to make it. Without trying to reveal anything, I think I'm going to have a hard time making the template, I feel he does not explain or show clearly enough in a few areas. Anyway. For the people who have made these before, I was hoping someone may have a few tips, tricks or cautions to point out that may aid me in trying to make this turn out and good as possible on the first shot, If you would like, please PM me, as I don't want to discuss the details on making this publicly. |

Also, Is there any pros or cons to using a chisel tip vs a standard fine point sharpie when doing this? I need to use a fine point sharpie for other effects during the act, so Id like to keep it consistent rather then using a fatter chisel tip for this one... Any thoughts on that as well?

Im not clear on if your can have multiple "give aways" stacked back to back in the pad, Or do you have to take it apart and add in the page each time? Basically, Can someone list the "stack" as if you were describing a stack of cards.
Cover, Template, Rise Gimmick, Give away sheet, blank sheet, give away sheet, blank sheet, etc... Or can it be Cover, Template, rise gimmick, then give away, give away, give away give away? Does that make sense? haha |

This is just another reason I think that books are better than videos. Cardiographic is clearly described in Mr. Lewis' lecture notes "Martins Magical Inventions". The templates for the card and the master page are printed with a full size graphic on the notes.
To answer your direct questions, yes you can use a regular Sharpie but you may find the chisel point easier as it gives you more options in line width. Yes, you need to set up the trick before each individual presentation. The "rising page" is destroyed with each presentation. The stack should be well described in the video and I do not feel it should be disclosed in an open forum.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant. Visualize Whirled Peas! |

This really is worth the time and effort to construct yourself. It is possible to customize both the template and the giveaway pages using a computer graphics program and in this way the reset can potentially be minimized. Paul Romhany and Wayne Rogers have specific methods describing this in "Switchboard Clipboard: The Rising Card".

I just made one about a month ago. It is a nice effect. I added a little something to prevent the card from rising too much. BTW, I made a mistake of showing the back of pad at the beginning of the performance, but, luckily, no one noticed.

I used mine a few years ago in library shows. Some days I had three libraries a day, so I just made up multiple pads. When I got back to the motel that night, I would reset each and be ready to go in the morning.

I like the effect but never do it now, it just takes me too long to set `p, since I had a stroke I find making things difficult, same goes for21st century phantom, fantastic effect but cant make the gimmicks any more
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.
