Hello all of my inventive friends. I was wondering if someone out there could lend me a hand, I've checked everywhere locally and come up short.
I have a 7' tall canvas bag with grommet holes in the top (mail bag) would anyone be able to shoten the bag by a foot and replace the existing grommets with larger ones? Thanks all, Shawn

Its pretty easy You can get a grommet kit at Home Depot all you need is a hammer. Just cut and sew the bag and use the grommet kit.

Yeah, that is easier said than done, I stink at sewing and most do it yourself projects take me DAYS. I was put on this earth for my good looks not my skills.
I appreciate the info though.

Shawn, you might try this method - no needles required, unless you get the urge!
Okay, remove the upper grommet area, and before you cut the desired amount off the top of the bag, test fold to leave enough canvas to fold over TWICE, this gives you a smooth hem edge, and THREE layers of canvas for the grommet to go through. Before setting any grommets, IRON the folded over edge, this helps to keep everything in place, and lets you check the line up parts. Will you be washing this often? If so, then I suggest a bead of hot glue around the underside edge of the new hem, about 1/2 inch from the botton edge, then press down wtih an iron. If not planning to wash often, use sticth witchery-iron on fuse tape! or hot glue. Now that everything is stuck together, you are ready to take a pencil and tape measure, and mark your grommet locations. Use an exacto or sharp knife to make a small X at the grommet hole,(use a piece of scrap to make sure the size this X should be, too big and the grommet will slip or pull out, it should be a snug push through the X) and push the grommet base through. Then slip the ring over the top and use several small taps with the hammer and tool to set, not one big mash! The little x-tails fold out to help add strength and keep the holes from tearing out at the grommets. The small hammer taps help keep the grommet from deforming and making ugly ovals instead of nice round easy to use holes! Be sure to use the two piece grommets, not the large eyelets that are only one piece. Any questions feel free to PM me and I will try to help you out with better description or pics.
