So I'm just starting a theater show. The candle changes to a silk, the silk changes to a cane and all of a sudden I realize I'm bleeding all over my billard balls and silks. Yep. The cane cut my thumb. It finally stops bleeding half way through the show. BUT is there any way to get the drops of blood stains off my silks? Thanks.
Jim

Cold water is the best way to deal with blood on silk.
Then try Woolite with cold water on your silk. Don't give up. Ultimately, you should win this one. Bob |

James, I wish I could offer some advice but Bob is the expert and he knows far more than me! Although I do have a few very minor blood spots on a few of my silks I have never tried to removing it. So my only advice is to listen to Bob!
I kind of know what you were going through. Bleeding onstage can be a problem! I had a very bloody incident that happened to me while performing my magic show.....also in a theatre. However, it was eclipsed by bloodier incident that happened to me while performing at a music gig. Neither involved any silks so I won't bore you with the details, but I can relate!

Try Club Soda.

Slight addition to Bob's answer--and HE KNOWS SILKS!
The cold water treatment definitely works! But, best if the water is used before the blood dries. PS Has anyone ever showed you how to hold the cane so it doesn't cut your fingers? I've used WALSH canes since forever. I have yet to cut a finger.

My doctor's advice is having a styptic pencil in you kit can be very handy to stop minor bleeding. (Yep, like the barber uses!)

Of course you could get new silks -- and join we few bizarrists for use of the old bloodstained ones.....LOL

When my father was in the hospital a year or so ago, a nurse tipped us off to hydrogen peroxide to clean blood. As long as the stain has not been heat-dried (like running it through the dryer after washing) it does wonders. Probably much the same principle as club soda, and Oxyclean-type products, oxygenating the stain does great.

Hydrogen peroxide is bleach and not recommended for colors.

Simply try Resolve spray cleaner from your local store. The stuff takes out all kinds of stains. If that does not work, the only way to get blood out is to use a product I found years ago. It is called Magic Wand. That stuff is miracle action on material.
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605......PALLx028 It can be found at hobby stores and artist paint supply stores. Remember do not drag the stick across the silk, as with silk, it will pull the weave of the light weight material. It will look like a snag on the silk. |

I'm afraid you are mistaken, chmara. Bleach is Sodium Hypochlorite, an entirely different composition than Hydrogen Peroxide, which is totally color-safe. But since I believe in putting my money where my mouth is (and did not want to steer anyone wrong) I tested my faith by soaking my favorite 100% silk tie (green) in peroxide for 20 minutes. No bleaching of any kind.

Motley, you should have really taken one for the team and bled all over it first.

And to be clear, hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching (whitening) agent, but it is file safe. I just mean to distinguidsh it from common household bleach, an entirely different chemical substance.
