I'm thinking of buying a webcam for filming some of my magic.
What is the best material to use ? What is the best format (Real, Windows Media Player,Quicktime) ? I have a iMac. Thank you for your answer. Marc |

Quicktime is nice because you can "scrub" along the timeline manually which letts you rewatch just a part of the clip in slow motion or at fast pace.

Can't tell you how many times I've been tempted to use the frame rate limitation to make some VERY cute videos.
imagine the fun of having coins on strings ready to fly out of view. likewise having some simple flaps and covers on the pad and table to allow props to suddenly appear. like reinventing those OLD OLD silent movie magic scenes.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I've maybe seen a handful of decent webcam videos (Greg's Gone! was the best I ever saw). Most are so horrible They shouldn't be watched. Format is up to you.. recommend WMV for internet streaming and MPEG for anything else. Either can be compressed to AVI for smaller downloads.
The best alternative is to buy a nice capture card (recommend ATI All-in-Wonder) or a USB capture device. In my setup my Sony Video Cam does the shooting and the ATI does the capturing at DVD resolution. Now I just have to make something magical and link it! (got tons of family vids you don't want to see) |
