Just For Laughs have quite a few setups like this that tread the line between just a prank and something that is almost like a giant magic trick. Their stuff is an object lesson in efficient communication too - to maximise the territories they can sell it everything happens without speech, and everything has to be clear and concise.
Also: super funny. Thanks for the link. Phill

Very good. Would be a complex routine but very devious. It's a bit unnerving tho to see adults sit down and start playing with a random child. I know that's probably not what's going on but still, a little weird.

Peter Turner in his Penguin Live lecture gave a cool idea of how to pre-show a setup for a spectator to select another "random" spectator during the show.
So... How about Spectator A is called on stage, given the jigsaw, told to select another person from the audience (Spectator B) who comes up for *whatever*. Spec A finishes the jigsaw, it is a picture of Spec B. Hmmm.... Possibilities.... My biggest concern is what to do with the background of the photo for logical disconnect?

Perhaps a bizarre effect where it's discovered that a spec bears an uncanny resemblance to someone in a vintage photo or jigsaw puzzle.

Hilarious. Of course, I think it would have been a little better, rather than letting them in on it, to leave them wondering. Ingenious thinking, though.

One quick idea is to hand a spectator an envelope with the puzzle pieces in it, and have them assemble the puzzle off to the side while you begin a little game to test who the most intuitive or psychic person is in the crowd, holding up a small coin envelope as you ask people to name any 2 digit number. A number of people make their guess - and one of them, you announce - was pretty close, being only off by 1 number. You bring that person to the stage - reveal the number, then ask the first spectator to show the finished puzzle - it is a picture of the second spectator. As a little kicker - you can have them turn the entire puzzle over, and on the back it will say "off by one".
Not a new idea, of course, but something that popped into my head. |

I know OfficeMax in Australia sells the blank jigsaws without the frames, but couldn't find a comparable product on their US site. Decided just to search ebay for today, and everything is there.
