I was wondering what do people like to perform when it comes to Blindfold work. I like classics, but the same time I like playing with new things. Here is one routine I came up with recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFDud8MSLvY So... what is your most often used blindfold routine, and why?

My favorite thing is more just a "bit". After I get the blind fold all placed, I tell my volunteer "Now, for the real test of a blindfold." *hold up 3 fingers* "How many fingers am I holding up? ...Really? Guess I'm going to have to take your word on that." and move on into the act.

For many year I performed a blindfold bit with a balloon in the audience and with a volunteer found its location ala Hellstromism. Then having the volunteer step back and the audience member holding the balloon out, I popped it with a dagger.
Used this a the end of a televised blindfold drive in Texas more than twenty year ago.

I like to keep my eyes open all the time just in case someone throws something at me but I enjoyed your clip very much. Keep up the good work. By the way is that Ben Yehuda street? Thanks.

Correct sir, it's Ben Yahuda, are you from here?
I make sure to keep my eyes closed especially at the beginning, because, sometimes people like to check it, waving their hands etc. and then by your reaction they can easily find out. But in that clip I kept my eyes closed all the way through. |

No, but I've been there. It's one of the greatest streets in one of the greatest cities in the world. My wife and I love it and look forward to going back. Who knows- maybe well run into a blindfolded mentalist.

It's the "Reverse Stab."
Five people are brought on stage. One person blindfolds the mentalist. The five volunteers each select a large card with a string on it and hang the card, without seeing the face, on their backs. The mentalist then opens his or her jacket to reveal five large and dangerous-looking knives. "No need to worry," the mentalist says. "Only one of them is real." The mentalist pulls one of the knives and then goes up and down the row of volunteers, feeling their shoulders for guidance, and then stabs one of the volunteers right in the heart! Ha! Ha! It's just a fake knife. Tension mounts as the mentalist repeats this three more times. Finally, the mentalist draws the last knife, the real one. Much hilarity ensues as the mentalist, still blindfolded, chases the last volunteer around the stage. Luckily, the mentalist has assistants who make sure the last volunteer can't leave the stage. Eventually, the mentalist catches the fifth volunteer. There are gales of laughter as the mentalist repeatedly slashes the volunteer with the knife often sending gushers of blood into the audience. As the volunteer falls dead to the stage, there is massive applause. The card on the back of the dead volunteer is the only card with a "bullseye" on it! This was printed in the book "My Favorite Blindfold" edited by Christian Nemo with effects by numerous top mentalists. I don't remember which one presented this effect, but I believe he's retired from performing now. I got the book after reading a review of "My Favorite Blindfold" in Bascom Jones' "Magick" magazine many years ago. |

I just got Taste2 by Bobby Motta; I have not performed it on stage yet, but I am sure it will be very impressive

My variation of blindfolded psychometry. I always wondered if many other mentalists performed it too...

1) Blindfolded Q&A.
2) Blindfold drive. 3) Blindfolded poo-lette (avoiding smashing or setting fire to a bag of poo. Requires a nose clip to keep things fair). Blindfolds are tools to ensure the performer isn't cheating. Alternatively, you can make the spectator wear a tin foil hat to make the mindreading appear more challenging. That's going in my next show.
