I have very smooth skin on my hands which makes it hard to do coin sleights when they get the slightest bit of sweat on them . Its always humid here in New Orleans so dry hands don't last long for me. When I practice hours and hours in the AC of my home it goes perfect but when Im elsewhere to perform my hands refuse to hold the coin in the most basic and simple sleights like curl palm, edge grip with a stack, JW vanish. Is there a solution or topical ointment I can use to either stop my hands from sweating or just give me traction even when they sweat?

Weight lifters chalk !!! It works wanders when used before a show. I can get an extra solid grip for a muscle pass on humid day using the chalk. It could also go by the name of climbing chalk too. Its works great when I lift weights and works equally impressive with magic. Hope that helps.

Climbers use chalk or magnesium carbonate as a drying agent on their hands and fingers to decrease moisture, reduce slippage, and increase performance.

You can use bow rosin the same way as the two above posts suggest using climbing and weight-lifting agents. David Roth uses it and even has his own brand. Below are some of the products used by some well-known magicians:
Gary Oullet has his own mix he sells on Camirand Academy web site Ed Marlo used and recommended Chamberlain's Golden Touch; has it in the cover art of his book "Marlo Without Tears" Harry Lorayne always keeps a wet hanky next to him on stage Martin Nash uses SortKwik Dai Vernon used Chamberlain's Golden Touch Martin Lewis uses Chamberlain's Golden Touch Frank Garcia marketed his own called" Frank Garcia's Manipulation Lotion", said to be same as Chamberlain's Golden Touch David Roth markets his own brand of bow rosin Geoff Williams uses "Tacky Fingers", similar product to SortKwik Scott Guinn uses "Pretty Feet and Hands" followed by mixture of equal parts of rose water, glycerin and alcohol Michael Skinner used "Skinner's Edge Crème", made by SortKwik and originally called "Paper Crème"; carried it in his sock and used it religiously U. F. Grant sells his own Manipulation Crème, also similar to Chamberlain's Golden Touch HTH! Jim |

I had this problem too...
Some venues was so hot that my hands almost dripped water ! Here's what I found over the years : - Before performing, let some cold water pour on the inside of your wrists, for almost 2/3 minutes. This will cool down your hands. - Have a towel in the close-up bag, and dry your hands often (before visiting each table) - I had my coins remilled to get sharp edges - Last but not least : work hard with wet hands... it sounds obvious but it works. Now I can perform my coin magic in a swimming pool ! Good luck ! |

Most of the lotions and sprays can work very well for cards, but even then, everyone has different skin, and so some products work better for some than others. Unfortunately, none of the lotions/sprays that work great for me for cards, works well for coins.
For coins, only TWO items have worked well for me, and they work GREAT: Bowler's Grip - comes in a very small glass jar. A little on the palms and/or fingertips and it is almost like you have glue on your palms. Buy them at a bowling alley pro shop or maybe a sporting goods store. I found it at the former. Violin Rosin - again, works very well. Only issue is that the stuff must be primed with a bit of heat from your skin before it will really grip. Just rub some violin rosin dust on your palms/fintertips and you're good to go (after rubbing your hands together to warm the rosin. Hopefully, one of the suggestions you have seen in this topic will do the trick!
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I use old fashioned anti-perspirant... you know, the kind that goes under your armpits? Works great if you get the spray kind. Just make sure to get the clear kinds, or else you get a white film on your hands that isn't too nice...
