The Magic Spider app is now available on the iPhone as well as Android. Search for Magic Spider.
It is an augmented reality app where you can take a photo of the spectator's hand and have either a spider, cockroach or butterfly appear on their hand. You can customize the app to suit your performance style. Spiders cockroaches and adhesive dots are available on the mypetboris.com website store. I recently bought this and it blows "The Web" out of the water!! If you are a fan of that classic prank/trick then you will love this. I ordered 30 very realistic cockroaches from a Halloween supply store in Vegas to supplement the app. This is a real fun one to perform!

Just saw this show up on Penguin - or at least, the Pro-Pack did. I'm assuming you still have to purchase the app itself. Anyway, I liked the idea of Pace's "The Web," but didn't like the fact that it was yet another trick that required cards. This looks, much, much better, and the motivation for having them wave their hand over the phone is built in.

Not overly impressed with the "Pro-Pack" - the spiders are the same sort of black molded plastic they used to put on rings and sell for 5 cents. The span and rigidity of the legs is such that folks might feel the spiders before the reveal - I got burned on that twice so far, until I decided to trim the legs to half length, after which there have been no problems. The spider included in the last iteration of Pace's "The Web" - which included a small brown, realistic hairy spider - is much better, IMO. But the app is awesome. Does everything advertised, and the reactions are incredible.

This app kills. The addition of the finger "tickling" the spider was genius, adds misdirection and really helps sell the effect. People really seem to love this gag. Might have to try the cockroach app next - the cockroaches that come in the pro pack are quite realistic and suitably grotesque. I've found that using two sticky dots on top of each other instead of one seems to work well with the spiders, and makes it so you don't have to press as hard.

I have had the full range of reactions, some being pretty intense. I have found that if someone starts trying to pull away when the "spider" is crawling on their "palm," you might want to consider bailing on the reveal of the plastic spider. Those people tend to really freak out when they see the spider on the back of their hand. Just a thought.

I now drop the spider on the spec's hand as I have been burnt a couple of times when I have placed it on the back of their hands.

The Butterfly effect is now available as an in-app Purchase within the Magic Spider App for Android. If you haven't already done so, UPDATE your Android app to V 1.7.2 and then you will be able to purchase the butterfly effect. Cost for the Butterfly In-App is $2.99
Butterflies, magnets, foil and adhesive dots are available from our website store: http://www.mypetboris.com/store.htm or your local magic shop. |

@Firestarter: Take a look at the video on our instruction page for some tips on loading the spider. There are a few video examples there that should help you get the loading right without being caught. The load when you are taking the photo should seem very motivated and completely natural. If you are getting caught maybe you are not doing it quite right.
See http://www.mypetboris.com or just click LEARN & then VIDEO from within the APP. |
