I am trying to adapt a better presentation for The Floating Rose into something that fits a performance for a Boy Scout troop. Any ideas as to what else could I fold the paper into?

Something that pertains to a certain merit badge?

I thought of that, but the question is, which one? The only one I can think of is folding it into a hiking stick(Hiking Merit Badge), but that seems to simple. And people wouldn't recognize it as a hiking stick, but rather as just a rolled up piece of paper.

Origami Swiss Army knife? Be prepared!

Swiss Army Knife? That's a little complicated, is it even possible? I don't mean to be rude, thanks for the suggestion, but I need ideas that are more...plausible, possible. 55,044 members and only one idea? I'm begging here, I need some ideas!

Roll the paper tight like a rope.
Show the "rope" make a knot in it and make it float. |

Roy,
If you want to keep all of the Floating Rose methodology and moves the same and are looking for a drop-in replacement, then the Swiss Army knife concept is obviously not for you. I like John's idea of the paper rope. If you like the Swiss Army knife concept, I would try to adapt this somehow. Perhaps you could have the knife shape folded in advance, and switch this in during performance. (E.g. I can’t fold a Bunny Bill out of a spectator’s bill live in performance, but I can sure make it look that way via a bill switch.) If the Swiss Army knife shape is too complicated, maybe you could simplify it to something that more or less looks like a knife with one blade extended. Or turn it into a comedy routine by proudly folding a *closed* Swiss Army knife. First they groan, then they get wowed. Another thought: The transformed knife doesn’t have to be real. You might be able to make a realistic-looking one that could be more conducive for the switch, more visible to your audience, etc. Just ideas, not solutions. Good luck, Ross |

Hey rhiro(Ross),
The Swiss army knife idea is actually really good, but I found a video on how to make a origami Swiss army knife on youtube and my sheets of flash paper aren't large enough(and probably not durable enough either) for that(I think they are 8x9). The guy in the video used 14x14 sheets of paper made specifically for origami. I do like the rope idea though, I can start out teaching how to tie a square knot, plus the knot will secure the IT onto the flash paper, thanks John, and thanks for your suggestion rhiro, I'll turn that idea into another effect on its own, probably kind of like your "Bunny Bill" routine. I now have a 2 great effects for my finale. Roy
