Hello,
First, I'd like to ask if anyone knows the proper chemical name for Demon Dirt? I bought a big bag from a Fish product distributor, now I can't remember it's name. It starts with a "P" like palmagranite or something. Second, has anyone had the problem where it just doesn't produce the spark/smoke in a timely fashion? Is there "good" Demon dirt? or does it go bad after a while? How do I know what's good and what's bad? Any suggestions would surely help. I used to do it quite a few years and had no trouble. Now I can't figure out which variable is giving me trouble, tissue, P. . . . . chemical, the glycerine or what. Thank you, Daniel |

Daniel, Demon Dirt, as originally described by Tony Andruzzi (one of my mentors), is NOT a 100% perfect method by any means.
Several other concoctions have been offered in the last several years by many people more knowlegable than I in matters chemical, yet those methods all seem to fail on a rather disturbing basis. Try a gimmicked tray with a gaff inside similar to a flash pot igniter. This can be done with a baking tray and, as such are often used for archeological displays and police evidence trays, will arouse little suspicion. Frankly, if the tray arouses suspicion, you are not presenting the effect well. See my notes about the most impressive response to an effect. I had 25 out of 26 law enforcement officers draw down on me when I did this puppy at a seminar on debunking the satanic conspiracy craze that was making the rounds in law enforcement communities a few years ago. If done right, you usually have to call in a professional cleaning company to wipe up the spots where people have wet their seats. Sincerely, Lee Darrow, C.Ht. http://www.leedarrow.com

Dear Daniel,
It's potassium permanganate. Please be careful. Yours, Paul |

My science teacher, who was a chemist for a manufacturing company, told me once that chemicals lose there effectivness as time goes by, they do have a shelf life. But they are never not dangerous until you use the proper disposal method.

Yes it can go loose its properties over time to some degree.
This is the common problem when magicians buy in bulk. They most likely blow any savings by buying an inferior product or buying so much they waste more than they use. Your power should be brownish and flow like sand. It should sparkle in the light as well. If you have tried a new bottle of the catalyst and had success with the chemical a while back than you can only assume that is your problem. If it was that you bought new chemical in bulk, you do not know if it will work like the stuff you had long ago. I have tried some of the CHEAPER versions and have and poor resutls. I provide chemical grade which costs me much more than the alternatives. BUT I have many happy customers. PS- if you bought ours you get the chemical name in the package. If feel the chemical name IS the secret and should not be exposed just as you will not expose any other gimmick. You can order from Kymystical but note our site might be down for a couple of weeks and we move to a new server. Quote:

FYI, a good mortar & pestle can be of use- grind your PP to a finer powder if you are having troubles with ignition. Beware the dust- ventilation, respirators/masks are recommended whilst grinding!
Also, Kymystical has some of the best PP I've used. I've gotten some crystals as big as 1/8" across from other vendors/ebay folks! Finer is usually better.... and yes, it should be purply in color, with a bronzy "glint". Good luck & be careful, Dave |
