I am interested in building a CHEAP, EASY TO BUILD illusion base or stairs. I have asked a couple friends, and they recommend Illusion Works Vol 1&2 by Rand Woodbury. Is this DVD as good as people say it is? How easy is it to build the bases/stairs on the DVD? Is it portable and easy to set up/breakdown?
Thanks so much! Cheers, Ben |

The absolute easiest and cheapest set that I've ever seen plans for were Abbott's deceptive steps. There are a few things to consider for this particular style though, if you want them to be even remotely deceptive. The best use in action that comes to mind is Blackstone Jr's. Lady to Lion (or tiger, whatever it was). The steps were situated at the front. She used them to go into the cage... he used them to adjust the curtain in front, and in the action of stepping down, he gave them a shove with his foot straight back, under the cage, as the cage was pulled forward. From that point on, darkness prevailed.
Rand Woodbury's design for steps that attach to the side of the illusion are a completely different design. The construction task is quite a bit more involved and the costs are relatively higher, as well. As far as a base, the design will almost entirely rest upon the illusion to be used. If you want to explore his ideas, get this book. http://www.magictrickstore.com/base-book......978.html
