Just took a first twirl through the extremely well produced DVD by mentalist Marc Paul.
First impressions: -Marc is a seasoned professional sharing some of his wonderful effects with us, -It's all practical...you will use this material, -The impromtu Book Test is a prayer answered for all mentalists AND magicians I can't tell you how gratifying it is to receive a DVD that delivers real value. The DVD is GREAT!! Lots of nice routines that are easy to perform but they will really impresse your audience! I will use several effects!
The impromtu Book Test is soooo bold... GREAT!! |

I have heard that this is such a great DVD.
However, no sites have any routine descriptions and if they do they are incredibly vague. Can anyone help? |

His descriptions are for his lecture notes booklet, but the DVD shows mostly the same effects and some effects not in the booklet. |

Can be done with a borrowed book, without any preparation. And it's even easy to do ! - Giant card mind read : divination of 5 cards given to 5 spectators, after they "shuffled" the deck. - a coin in the hand : classic effect, but this time it's the spectator who tries to find the good hand ; there's also a prediction involved (I can't explain more) - AAA mind reading : how to find a thought written on a paper, without CT or strange folding, without impression device. - AAA metal bending : a borrowed coin is bent - the £85 question : different banknotes are taken by a spectator, put in different pockets, and the mentalist finds them (there's also a prediction involved) - direct thought projection : Hum, difficult to describe. Let's say that some spectators have to think of a colour, a letter ... (stage effect) + Bonus effects : - everyone think of a card : an opening stage effect - pick a person, any person : how to use a stooge who seems to be picked at random - the human pack : how to involve the entire audience - so you can read minds ? Prove it ! : how to find someone's star sign (can be done on the phone) + interactive effect (you can do this at home): I think it's a classic one, but if you don't know it yet, it's a good effect that can also be done on the phone (it's not explained but you can reproduce it anyway.) One last word : This dvd is a must have !

Regarding the DVD, it's worth noting that I experienced technical difficulties with it. It would not play properly on the DVD player hooked up to my TV. It would play all or part of one scene and then skip wildly around to other scenes, and some parts couldn't be accessed at all.
So I put it in my computer DVD (a brand new Dell running Windows XP), and got a warning that it was from a different "region" than my DVD is set up to play -- my computer switched to that region's format but with a warning that it would only let me switch back & forth a certain number of times. So I am able to watch it but only on the computer (and this with some risk of conflicting with my computer's ability to play my region's DVDs) I assume this all has to do with me being in the U.S.A. and the DVD coming from the U.K. I honestly don't know much about international differences in DVD formats -- but this is something to be aware of . . . Hi!
Same with my copy. The scene skipped or freezed. Then I put it in my computer DVD and it didn't work at all! And I have the same DVD region format. So, I returned it to Magictricks.co.uk and they sent me a replacement. This time it works on the DVD player hooked up to my TV although not on my computer DVD. Anyway, the DVD is quite good and Marc's style is clear and direct. The routines are 100% practical. Best,

You need to set your DVD player to Region 0 (Region free).
This will allow you to view any DVD from any country. Go to http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks and find your particular DVD player.

Hi,
Thanks for the postings on this. In the vast majority of cases, this DVD should play on any player, anywhere in the World. It is multi region (region 0), so is not restricted to any country. We have, however had a very small number of people who have experienced problems with playing this title due to an incompatibility issue between the DVD and their player. The DVD production team are in the process of reauthoring a batch of these which should play on any player which had difficulties previously. We hope to have this new version available in the next 1-2 weeks. If you are unable to play this DVD, please email sales@magictricks.co.uk so that we can arrange to swap it over for the re-authored version as soon as we receive these. Many thanks best regards Carl Fraser MagicTricks.co.uk |

I heard the book test is a ripoff from richard busch's from peek performances. maybe not ripoff but very very similar. I recently found alain nu's booktest and I must say that this is by far the best impromptu booktest I have read.

Just a heads up. The OP says you can use all the material in the real world.
Buyer beware: that's only the case if you don't mind carrying around 3 different wallets. Marc Paul uses 3 different wallets for 3 different effects in this one DVD. I can't believe Marc Paul walks around with 3 wallets, just in case he needs to perform "impromptu." |

Perhaps he did not mean for you to perform the entire DVD all at once.
