I have a friend with a four-year old nephew who is showing some interest in magic. While I've performed for kids that young, I don't know much about what they're able to do that age in terms of learning tricks.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

One thing...forget card tricks!! Their hands are too small. Also, keep it VERY simple as their attention to detail and attention span is limited.
Check out David Ginn, and other childrens performers, for advice and see what they do. Good luck. Mark. |

Thank you! She lives on the east coast so she's just looking for recommendations.

My partner Tom started at 4.

That's a good age to like magic but it's very hard for them to not share the secret and I'm talking immediately. Most that age are just too innocent not to give it away. There are exceptions but it is tough at that age.
Ball and Vase, Coin Slide, or something super self working is a good start. But don't be suprised when they say, 'see this part.' Tom

Tom Boleware knows what he is talking about when it comes to very young children. Take the young boy to the dollar, or the party store there are magic toys there that will be fun for his 4 year old mind. The boy probably would be satisfied if you gave him a magic want to wave around the house. We are talking about a curious 4 year old boy with a very short attention span here guys.

What about those optical illusion boomerang cards?
