And here is the paint job before the hair!
He has eyebrows (the basic sculpted 'dummy-style' as opposed to real hair) that are emote controlled to work independently.. so they can look angry with both brows going downwards - or surprised, with both brows pointing up.. as well as puzzled with one raised eyebrow. They can either be controlled with a radio from off stage or by a pre-programmed servo puppeteering board.. Pics with the hair to follow! Thanks for looking! Comments and critiques welcomed! He looks amazing! Before the paint job, I couldn't really grasp it.
But he looks so real, and ready to give his opinion on any topic whether you want to hear it or not. Can we see him without the glasses? Also, why did you use remote-controlled eyebrows? I imagine that would make the selling price quite a bit more. Thanks! |

Hey Fonsy-
Thanks for the reply! I went with animatronic because this custom puppet is Designed to be operated completely hands free. He was made for an very funny performer out of Toronto who will be doing a silent routine with this guy.. So it needed to have a lot of facial expression as it is a strictly visual routine. He also moves his head via remote control.. AND he has a bad toupee that flies off of his head on command I will try to find some pics where you can at least see the eyes.. The glasses are permanently screwed onto his face. They really add to it though because they are strong reading glasses - so they magnify his eyes quite a bit Thanks again.. I will be getting pics uploaded of the completed head with hair soon! Damien |

Thanks Keith and Manal!
James, I am sure you know how much time goes into these creations.. Sometimes it's hard to see them go Its fun work though! I love the process of creating a custom puppets from scratch.. Seeing it evolve from a hunk of clay (or wood) Into a real character is so neat to be a part of.. I appreciate all of the kind comments along the way! This is a great community! Damien |

Here is a bit of a close up of the old fella's eyes with his glasses. His eyebrows are raised here.. although they do raise higher as well as go into 'angry brow' position.. As mentioned above, they also are independently operated via servo motors/remote control...

As promised, here is a pic of the completed head with hair.. The hair took a long time as much of it was hand ventilated.. a process of tying hairs on one at a time to give the appearance of natural hair growth. It's kind of like rug hook knotting in extreme miniature and this guy took well over 40 hours to do just the wig..
Now the hard part is figuring out what kind of puppet to do next Click here to view attached image. |

Damien666 I'm not blowing smoke, but that would have to be the best looking figure I've seen. You are one extremely talented chap. I hope it doesn't take too long to figure out what to make next because I'm looking forward to it!
When I win the lottery I'll buy everything you've got. Zuke PS: Is there anywhere I can see bigger pics of the old guy? |

Truly is art. I am huge fan of your work. I do understand the amount of time it takes to create a figure. I look forward to seeing more of your work. |

Thanks ever so much for all of the amazingly generous words of encouragement!!
I am now stuck homebound because my head is so inflated now, I won't be able to get out the door! Seriously, I really am grateful for all of the compliments! I will try to get this project on my website (www.puppetsandgore.com) with some better pics so you can see things better. I also did a secondary character for this routine (also animatronic).. I will post some of that as well! Thanks again for looking and commenting! Damien |
