D-Day.
Thanks, America, for helping to free millions of people. But they were people who WANTED to be free. Lets not try that again. They don't want to be free today. :bat: |

Interesting homage to D-Day.
I too thank those brave servicepeople who gave their lives. That said, there are nations that DO wish to be free - of America. I hasten to add that I AM American and there is much I love about my country, but, let's not pretend that America is a New Jerusalem or anything that resembles Augustine's City of God. Ask a Native American, ask the nations with whom we have played chess with to our advantage. There is a world of difference between Adolf Hitler and nations who desire to be free to grow without our influence. Colonialism directly gave rise to one of the bloodiest meat grinders known to humanity: World War I. And THAT proved so successful that we had another a mere 21 years later. Maybe we need to define "freedom" and "free." But to those servicepeople who stormed Normandy that day: +May their memory be eternal+ |

Vlad ,
Can you name a few countries that don't want our influence? I can't think of one. Yes, it's a great thing that America has stepped up to fight Colonialism since its inception.

I'll raise a glass to all the brave men who liberated Europe 69 years ago, of whatever nation or persuasion. It is a source of embarrassment that Ireland is a nation of cowards, and we did not do our bit.

***ed white of us, considering Churchill himself ordered fake intelligence reports leaked, showing Irish concentrations in London to be strategic military targets.
