To compliment a routine my Grandaughter is working on , she needs Pink, Hot pink and/or Fuschia colored silks for a silk fountain The fountain will be pink and white but needs more diversity of color while still being "pinkish".
Jay Scott Berry had a Hot Pink/Fuschia diamond cut silk the color of which would be ideal, but she needs regular cut silks. She also needs a custom Pink and white 2Oth Century set. Does anyone know where to find this Hot Pink?Fuchsia silk? |

At DoveLite Silk we stock six sizes of square silks in both pastel pink and hot pink (called light purple in China.)

If you are looking for a regular Pink silk 18" size, contact Rice Silk king studios. They are the only magic silk provider that caries a true pastel pink silk any longer. Bob Sander's told me they don't make the regular pink silks any longer. You will have to contact them, as they are not on their regular website as it is part of Baffling Bloomer's trick. She sold me extra single pink silks.
Bob Sander can provide the other hot type pinks. His silks are superior in quality. |

Well,
Question asked and answered quickly. I had Bobs list but did not realize that the Light purple was the Hot Pink. My order is in! |

I have dyed many variations on silks for custom fountains but it is not cheap. If you can find the stuff that is close to what you want from Bob, do so. I am pretty sure it will serve your needs fine.

You should have your silks today. I look forward to seeing that young lady's show! Bob |

Bob,
I have received the silks. What service! Thanks. I have contacted Ruth at Silk King Studios and she has a pastel pink that I assume will be lighter in color than the pinks you sent. If so this should add to the visual punch by having three different pinks along with white for the fountain and the snap silks. The 5 momme silk in white doesn't seem to hide the color of the next pink silk very well in the snap silk production (under regular lighting). Do you think this will be obvious with stage lighting? Ruth says she has a 6 momme white silk. I'm not familiar enough with momme to know if the momme difference will effect the translucency enough to make any difference. Ed |

Ed,
Thanks for the update and the kind words. You have a very lucky grand daughter! As for 20th Century Silks trying to hide pink (or any other darker color under pure white silk) explains why we do not use white ends on the top quality pure silk 20th Century Silks. For Snap Silks you should get away with it since there are never any two white silks together at a time. There are plenty of pros who do. Going to a higher momme silk won't solve the problem either. Some synthetics will cover but not treat light the way silk does under stage lights. Most also hang like a bath mat rather than float like silk. Remember that pure silk thread only comes in one size! The insect rules there. Higher momme in ONLY a measure of mass. More mass gives more surface which is beneficial in contrast for graphics. It can also require an inferior weave and adds to space requirements. Price and quality are not the same thing. Cutting to the chase, for Snap Silks, don't sweat it. Watch the pros and you will see them using white even over red and blue (never prints!). Professionally, I use the same 24" white silks you have to produce doves, spring flowers and bills, and bottles. The thing to avoid is having two white silks at the same time near each other WHEN one has something darker under it. Then they will appear to be different colors. Enjoy! Bob |

Bob,
Thanks for the education. Very clear and easy to understand. Forgive me as I press on for more. Two Questions. I have read that new silks need to be "conditioned" by washing to remove "sizing??". Should we prepare the new silks in any manner before putting them in the act? Secondly, we are constructing a 20th Century set from the silks you have sent, with pink ends and a white center. The 20th Century set that you sell has a constructed pocket sewn inside the gimmicked silk. I assume this pocket is to hide the hidden silk more efficiently under stage lighting. As the pocket adds extra bulk to the unit as a whole, do you think it necessary when using the light purple silk on the ends with a white in the middle? Although I have addressed this note to Bob, this conversation is open to all, please. Ed |

Good Morning Ed,
1. The silks you have are top of the market and do not have to have sizing washed out. You are ready to go. 2. I prefer having the pocket. It is made (in your case) with a 12" light purple silk folded in half inside the gimmicked silk. Among other things, it helps save "accidents" while tying the silks together. |

Most all 20th Century Silk outfits come with the gimmicked silk a little heavier in weight, and also a darker color, usually blue.
Again, the reference I gave for the Baffling Bloomer's comes with a very nice Symphony Pattern silk similar to this one: http://www.silkkingmagic.com/Symphony%20......nbow.htm , but the center section is pink and diagonal corners blue. My advice would be again to contact Ruth at Rice Silk King Studio's and purchase the 20th Century Baffling Bloomer outfit without the Bloomers. Once again, I will mention, Ruth is very nice and will work with you, so just order the standard outfit without the Bloomers but with an duplicate Symphony Pattern silk with pink center. I am sure Ruth will supply your needs. This way, you have a little different color in your tricks, so as not to confuse the audience with nothing but pink and white silks. Note: It would be good to take out the creases in the silks from them being in the folded state. A simple light ironing will take care of that. |

Once again thanks for all of the advice and education.
My 12 year old Granddaughter now has updated her act to include all pink and white silks. From the Fuchsia (light purple) and white 20th century silks, to the 4 colors of pink and white snap silks to the beautiful fountain of assorted pink silks. The change of colors has really given her act a fresh new look. She will be performing in Washington, DC in the "Stars of Tomorrow" show on July 4th at the SAM Convention. This will be like a coming out for her. I sometimes think I'm more nervous that she is! |

Bob ,
Thanks for the PM about LizzyC's "professional (read: paid )" debut performance at the SAM Conference on July 4th. She did a great job, no mishaps, all went smoothly. She was well received and was complimented by a great many attendees. Her Mom, Grandmother and I were very excited and proud to see her performance. Many of the compliments she received had to do with her exceptional skill level at the young age of twelve. Many complimented the fresh color scheme of varied hues and intensities of the color pink. The act is bookended with police sirens that allude to the theft of a "Pink Panther type Diamond". The music for the set is Mancini's "The Pink Panther" Hence all the pink ropes, silks and costuming. One person did say that she felt more colors would have been more eye appealing. This sparked a back and forth with most everyone else feeling that the all pink was a good "hook". One other thing that needs work is her final load , which is a 5 inch pink diamond produced from the fountain of silks. Its too small to be easily recognized for what it is. A larger diamond is needed but we must go back to the drawing board as the 5 " diamond is the largest that her present body load method will allow. |

Light up the diamond with flashing strobe light inside.

Fantastic! I like the Pink Panther theme. And certainly, diamonds are a girl's best friend!
Thank yo for the report! If a single diamond is not visible enough and the max body load, you might consider a string of diamonds sold at fabric stores for trim. You should be able to get 3 or 4 yards of them in the same space and in stage lights there are so many surfaces offered that the glitter is there like a chain of diamonds. (Lucy and I use them.)
