SPOILER ALERT don't READ IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THE KOVIE.
The writing tries to be clever but with oines like "There is only one way this ends either you die or I die" it fell pretty short.

Ok since you missed it you don't follow only one way it ends with two choices.

So as I said the writing was less than clever.

Someone claimed he'd been playing "Russian Roulette" and it was brought up that you can't do that with a Luger. There's also the argument (Presented in "Hollywoodland") that he was actually killed by mobsters.

There are similarly objected to moments in Batman: Year Two, which has Batman carrying around, I believe, the hgun which wasused to kill his parents. It is a far inferior story to Year One, obviously.

I thought we were discussing very early character development from the beginnings of the comic. I do remember a story in the 70's Batman where Thomas Wayne helps stop a jewel theft with the help of the Shadow. Young Bruce Wayne is terrified by the gun play and as he grows up, it colors his development as Batman. 20 years later he, the gunman and the Shadow all meet back on the same roof top where the Shadow gives his blessings to Batman (with reservations, since Bruce still won't use a gun.)

I liked the new superman. I can see some purests being ****ed off that it stray's from the orrigional path but in this day and age a 1930's point of view in a 2013 world just doesn't work. it was a fun watch very enjoyable indeed!

I finally got around to watching Man of Steel, and I was underwhelmed. Too long, too much filler, and not enough actual plot (given the length of the movie) for my tastes. Also there were some internal inconsistencies in the movie that bothered me.
But I did think that the characters of Superman and Lois Lane were played well by the corresponding actors. And I am excited to hear about the plans just announced for the next Superman movie. http://www.deadline.com/2013/07/official......-batman/ BURBANK, CA, July 20, 2013 – On the heels of the worldwide success of “Man of Steel,” director Zack Snyderis bringing together the two greatest Super Heroes of all time—Batman and Superman—for the first time on the big screen. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution,Warner Bros. Pictures. [Much more at the link above.]

I understand that the dialog they spoke to reveal that Batman would be in the next Superman movie came from The Dark Night, probably the best Batman story ever told if not one of the best comic stories ever told in my opinion. However, from other things they said, that doesn't appear to mean that the next Superman movie will be based on that story although it may mean that Batman battles Superman.

That line comes from the Miller comic. We will likely see "Nemesis", Millar's comic done, as a movie before they give Miller's Dark Knight Returns a non-cartoon treatment.
It's a fine comicbook. The months of waiting for the last chapter to hit print made for a suspenseful summer. Here's the line Geoff Latta once quoted from that story "master bruce. whatever happened to your mustache?" from the first fight with the mutant leader: "... robin the boy hostage... that's what two-face called you... heh... you hated that" behind the bars of the guarded white house (this was written in 1987) "...yes sir" (superman to president) "good boy" (president to superman impressive use of red, white, yellow and blue in those panels Selina (tied up in wonder woman costume) "bruce... he's worse than ever" and one more to set the tone: "it wasn't easy to synthesize, clarke...took years... and it cost a fortune... luckily I had both..." I still wish they'd give Miracleman a try. Nemesis may change the game for costumed heroes in movies.

Yes, I should have said, "The Dark Knight Returns", not just "The Dark Night".
I really enjoyed 'most' of Miracleman, until the last few books where it got pretty weird. (For me at least.) I had never heard of Nemesis and based on this review, http://thebooksmugglers.com/2011/03/graphic-novel-review-nemesis-by-mark-millar-and-steve-mcniven.html, not sure I want to read it. Although that site also pointed out IRREDEEMABLE, which I had never heard of but find intriguing as it appears to take Miracleman into another direction. |

Irredeemable is a difficult read for other reasons. It was like one on those legion of superheroes on the 1960s stories but very dark, mauling those characters and conventions until a rough equivalent of brainiac 5 engineers the maximortal style redemption by way of Segal and Schuster. It's contemporary with Moore's issue of supreme with the Kirby tribute but without the reverence for creativity or awe of what was created. At least with Millar's work you know he's out to shock and maul the conventional while avoiding alienating his readers.
