Two, just like the tutorial says.
My AH/QS double-facer is the worst, but depending on lighting, I can see thru all of them. |

That's discouraging. I have about everything but the DMT and the sealing iron so I will get at some in a opulent months. Was that the Kodak DMT?

I used to make my own gaffs all the time, even Hoffsinzer Cards. Here are some pointers: 1) No matter what gaff you are trying to make, use very fresh cards. Old cards are more difficult to split. 2) When you split a card you are actually pealing the card core away from the face layer. Trying to peel the face layer will tear it every time. 3) Use a very light coat of 3M Super Spray 77 or Elmer's Spray Adhesive (basically the same material). Just a light puff over the card layers you want to glue. Let it tack up. 4) Aligning the two layers is the most difficult part of the process. It just takes a good eye and some practice. 5) Roll the two layers down with a hard rubber or acrylic brayer (artists roller) 6) Finally, clamp the finished gaff between two pieces of plate glass a little bigger than the card. Use a spring type/Pony clamp. A C-clamp will crack the glass. Have fun!

Maybe it was brought up in a previous thread, but I can't find it. What is the easiest way to split a card?

Poof & CardMaker... I broke down and bought a box of the BienFang DMT. Transparency is just as bad with either DMT. I had thought maybe CardMaker was hinting that the BF was opaque or black or something. Nope.
I'm going back to rubber cement unless it's a gaff that a spec will be handling. Much easier and cheaper, too. Or I could avoid performing where they have windows. |

Hypno-- there are several tutorials around. Check the links Poof-Daddy posted above. There are probably some on YouTube as well.
Edit: There's a good discussion on various methods in the Secret Sessions area when you have enough posts to get access. |

I make most of my own gaffs now, I find it a relaxing past time! There is a DvD called the art of splitting cards from magic makers, some really great info and they show you how to get a good set of "tools" for stupid cheap.

After reading this thread I'm gonna try splitting some cards and make my own gaffs - maybe double facers that aren't included in gaffed decks - like Ace/Jokers. Just trying it out appeals to the curious scientist in me.
