Hi all
I'm using Ammar fab fruit as final loads for my C and B routine. Lately the fruits are getting sticky...the tomato is the worst one! Really sticky! Any recomendation to clean them!? How to store them? Thanks to all! |

I have had god luck cleaning them with liquid dish soap such as Dawn. Rinse then well and let them air dry. I store them in a photo box lined with white cardboard.

I wonder if it has anything to do with climate? I am in the UK so there would only be anything that resembles a warm climate for a max of 2 days a year! I haven't had any issues. The only problem I have had is tiny light brown speckles on 4 of my lemons.

This could all be water under the bridge. I don't see the Fab Fruit on Ammar's website. Seems to be discontinued.

I've had the Lemon Lime Potato and Turnip for 2yrs now with no problems.
I've traveled with them through CA. WA. OR. NV. AZ. NM. in very hot dry wet humid climates. No problems whatsoever. I heard Ammar sold out of his FAB Fruit, and not discontinued. |

You can find very realistic fake decor mushrooms (including rubber ones) on ebay. Mushroom are perceived as fragile and therefore sleight of hand with them is not suspected. It could be a non expensive replacement for your problem

I believe there have been several generations of Fab Fruit over the years. The first generation (13 or 14 years ago?) gave off a terrible odor as they aged, and didn't look particularly good. The next generation looked better, but the the lemons and limes developed strange, black spots over time (was something growing on the inside?). I just took a look at mine from 2 or 3 years ago (3rd generation? 4th?), and while the lemon and lime still look good, the tomato is developing that strange discoloration (black spotting) on the bottom (it's not sticky, though). I just look at these things as something that will need to be replaced every few years. And I would certainly never buy them used, who knows which generation you'd be getting.

That's a great, informative post Merenkov. Interesting that these items have a limited shelf life. I'd store them in a cool, dry place when not in use, and keep the humidity under 45%. A de-humidifier is a great investment.

My Friend Michael Lee, who created the Great millennium cups some yrs ago mentioned this in an article for Magic awhile back.
Why would you ever want to use fake Items ? and now we have fake fruit / balls what ever that end up getting stuck in the cup. Isn't the real item so much for exciting especially for the spec if they decide they want to see it up close or just that fact to see if its 'Real or not . This sounds like yet anothet product to sell magi's. m123 |

The fab fruit has its pros and cons. They're great for practicing because they weigh pretty much like their real counterparts. They're great in a pinch if you're going to perform the cups and balls and don't have the extra time to shop for real fruit. From a slight distance, they are virtually indistinguishable from real fruit. I handled and inspected the lime up close and was impressed with the craftsmanship.
You can't give them away after your performance, which you can do with real fruit. |

I love the Fab Fruit. They look fantastic and I get the exact same reactions as I do with real fruit. Honestly, if your spectators are bothered by the fact that you produced fake fruit, they're missing the point anyway. Any why hand the fruit out for inspection anyway? Who cares? It's the appearance of it that sells the routine. You can handle them like real fruit, toss them in the air, drop them on the table...they'll handle just like the real thing and you don't need to go to the grocery store every time you plan on doing your cups and balls routine.
Yes, it's obviously a product to sell to magicians. That's kinda the whole point.

Ditto to Andrew's post.
There are definitely legit advantages to using the fab fruit with almost zero downside. I think I would feel strange saying to a spectator "here, and you can even keep this potato" - LOL! |
