Read the article. The officer was merely repeating what he was told by the victim, who may or may not have been lying or embellishing.

I suppose for those who believe in an afterlife, Trayvon Martin might either be flitting about with fairy wings, singing "Shine, Jesus Shine!", whilst strumming a celestial banjo, or alternatively he might be in purgatory, hell, or any number of other places, depending on your religious outlook. Whatever the truth of his killing, 'God will sort it out'. Because, of course, God always makes it okay. Or perhaps God doesn't exist and Trayvon Martin isn't resting in peace at all, because he isn't resting, because resting requires one to be not resting at other times. Maybe Trayvon Martin doesn't exist anymore, because he got shot by some moron. Perhaps it's because I live in such a Godless country that I place such a high value on human life: even at the expense of other humans having the notional right to carry bullet-shooting tools. I don't want my legislature working on the principle of God taking a hand. God is notoriously incompetent when dealing in human affairs. |

IMO, because of free will, God ( assuming there is one ) just watches, he or she doesn't help anything along.

However, I've noticed that he certainly gets LOTS of credit for the occasional (or the frequent) miracle. A tornado strikes and dozens are killed, while a lone baby survives. Why... it's a miracle! The local residents will praise God and newspaper headlines will trumpet the "Miracle Baby", while nobody blames God for the tornado that killed dozens in the first place. Funny how that works. Then there's those like Pat Robertson, who thinks that natural disasters are God's payback for the "wickedness" of the victims themselves. So all those massacred innocent children, babies, and animals had it coming to them. Stay classy Pat, stay classy. Ron

Maybe the devil made him do it.

I always thought it was odd that when the Super Bowl is played the winners thank God, and the losers blame themselves.
Just ONCE I want to see a guy who says something like "I was having a great game till Jesus made me fumble". Oh wait I am not going to Google it but didn't someone blame God for losing in the past couple of years? Personally I think God has better things to do than worry about who is going to win the game but that is me. Although maybe He had money on it.

I've read there have been over 20 of these retaliation attacks on innocent people who had nothing to do with Trevon Martin. Is this true?

It's a shame that the word "discrimination" has taken on such a bad connotation. Remember the time when the magic ads said, "For the discriminating performer"?
Still, discrimination on the basis of race, religion, skin color, country of origin and even gender and sexual orientation are illegal in various contexts. So-called "reverse discrimination" has, in the past, been legally justified to counteract the detrimental effects of our nation's long, sordid history of racial discrimination. But times are changing and the rules are evolving. Private discrimination has generally been given more leeway (especially when local and not deemed part of "interstate commerce") than discrimination involving state action (state involvement can exist, for example, when private schools are partly funded with governmental money). As for the Trayvon tragedy, there is a natural tendency to want to cast blame for such a needless loss. Then there's the whole civil vs. criminal liability (blame) issue, as we saw in the OJ case. Tragedies like this one happened fairly frequently in our Old West, where it was common for men to carry side arms and justice was closer to the law of the jungle. In some ways we seem to be returning to those days, which certainly were not "the good old ones" we grew up hearing about. DK |

La Cucaracha comic strip of the day:

I get it! It's funny, because the reason he isn't outraged is not that it's an obvious reasonable doubt case! Good one.
