That's my take on what his contemporaries have said about his sleight of hand skills. As a STAGE magician, my understanding is that his flaw is exactly what made him great as an escape artist. He was confrontational as a performer. Daring the audience to see through what he was doing. (My specific example was his version of the Trunk Switch. I can't remember the exact quote but he challenged the audience to try and see through his performance. Which of course they couldn't.) All the film clips I've seen of Houdini have shown him escaping. I've never seen clips of him performing any other magic. Are there any that anyone knows about?
