You may be familiar with a puppet maker from Australia named Jarrod Boutcher. His work is well respected in the puppet-making world, and he regularly sells his puppets on ebay. Over the years, he's become my favorite soft puppet maker. The detail and quality of his work amazes me. It's in the same vein as the Muppets, which I love. He's been given the stamp of approval by a few Muppeteers including Caroll Spinney (Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch).
Anyway, I've said that if I ever could afford one of Jarrod's puppets, I'd order one. Well, I still can't afford one, but I was very fortunate recently to have my brother offer to treat me to an original Boutcher puppet. I initially declined, but he insisted. What a wonderful bro I have, indeed! So, Jarrod has built me a puppet based on a character I've had in mind for many, many years (actually since I was a senior in college in 1990). Some of you may recall that Scott Bryte carved me a figure a few years ago that now resides in the Ventriloquist Central collection. That figure was also based on the same character. While I have not received him yet, I am considering some names, and I could use some help from those who'd like to play along. First, a little about his character: - basically a typical American middle school student (12-13 years old) - a bit of a hipster - is well-read, and knows a bit about literature, music, art, philosophy (especially existentialism and Zen) - while he is intelligent, he's still dealing with typical middle school stuff (think Diary of a Wimpy Kid) Some of the names I'm considering: - Duncan - Rocky - Jazz Any other thoughts? Thanks! |

Anyway, after much deliberation, I've decided to call this guy Jack. He's on his way to me from Australia. I hope to post some pics of Jack and me when he arrives.

Thank you, Mr. Pitts!
--------------------- Hi Ben, Jarrod is in Queensland. It seems he's more known in the puppetry world, not the vent world. If you're interested, here's the link to his site: http://jbpuppets.blogspot.com/ He also sells his puppet on ebay regularly. He's currently selling this Muppet-type monster: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Green-Furry-Mons......83dd960f |

Jack arrived today from his long journey from Down Under. He's truly an amazing puppet. I can safely say this is the nicest soft puppet I've ever had. He is exactly what I was looking for in a custom character. I think I've finally found my main guy.
If you're interested in a soft puppet, I highly suggest you consider Jarrod Boutcher. This is NOT a paid endorsement! |
