Thanks, Steve, for making it "The Catch of the Day."
I appreciate it and am glad it found favor with you.

I just received my copy of Pyrexia and I love it! As has been said before the method is wonderfully devious. This effect is really practical and portable and really leaves space to make a great presentation.

Thanks Bryn.

My suggestion to Byrn (seriously) is to take this idea (and others) over to to a certain company in the land of the rising sun. They LOVE clever and contemporary tricks like this, and they will fill his coffers with the well-deserved rewards his commercial ideas can bring.

Adolphus,

I don't own the effect so I can be wrong but I had just to look at the pictures on Bryn website to immediately notice what kind of paper was used to achieve the effect (THE**** PAPER).

If I'm wrong... good for him and I also just gave you a parallel idea to get the same effect BUT if I'm right... Bryn could only sell this idea to people in the land of the rising sun IF (and that's a BIG IF) they don't know already that the same effect with the coin, utilizing the same kind of paper (on a business card) was created years ago by LEE EARLE and published in SYZYGY.

Having said that, the twist of using that kind of paper applied to the discovery of which card was taken by a participant maybe new (at least to my knowledge) thus it could still be marketable to the rising sun people you mentioned.

David: Thanks for the kind review. I am also glad that "Double-Down" has found favor with you, as well....down to only a few of those and may have to reassemble another run of 52 ( I am going to have to challange myself this time and try to use different casinos...lol) It IS KILLER, isn't it>?

HI Menetekel:
You got it! Since you know the MODUS you will know $15 is a STEAL for SIX of these little beauties, professionally cut and fully laminated, and with multiple routines. The stuff is ALMOST impossible to get now, as I gleaned after discussing this with Mr. Earle. Try an internet search....nope. So now I will discuss the history of this endeavour.....

I started the PYREXIA project with just hopes of getting enough to make ONE set with this routine in mind, for MYSELF ONLY, to have something in reserve to completely fry fellow magicians/mentalists...no sleights, peeks, or any of the usual mentalism techniques. However, none of this stuff was still on the market....Mr. Earle DID try to point me in the correct directions but it didn't work. Nothing.

I FINIALLY found someone who had this; however, and a BIG however, I had to buy a LOT of this stuff. A LOT.("I can sell you some, Bryn, but you have to buy XXXX") I pondered why, since they don't make BILLBOARDS out of this stuff!!! I LITERALLY had to help the UPS guy bring this in...lol..) I was thrilled that I did, though.....

I wrote up the routine that I had in my mind, had it printed, the cards made, cut and professionially laminated. I factored in everything, cute 'lil envelope included, and setteled on $15. I've been told I was completely underpricing this, etc. For me, $15 is me making a couple of bucks off each set and I get to share something else I have created with the mentalism community. I could be charging $50 and perhaps sell more......lol...funny how pricing in magic determines sales.

My satisfaction is getting a ton of replies saying the purchaser has greatly appreciated the product they have gotten for their money....and that they are TOTALLY entertaining an audiance with MY product(s.)

As far as the ORIGINAL routine...thats included as a bonus in the booklet, however it's been totally reworked to include a free choice of any coin under ANY card...and you ought to see a version of this using a BOTTLECAP a purchaser sent me....nice.

Anyway, as stated in ad copy, this TRULY is one of those routines that you want to TIP the method to, TO the spectator. ("you think THAT was cool.....lemme show you HOW I did it......")

But don't...LOL

Hi Bryn, I think it is a COOL routine indeed. And as I've said, the idea of using that principle to cards was not something I heard before. Also, I like the idea you use some symbols to it and not playing cards (that would be a NO in my agenda!) because with that you can give some quick reading to participant.

If I were you, since it's true that $15 is very cheap and your idea is good enough, I would just remove the picture with the back of the cards (even because in my case, if I wanted to make it - AND I WOULD NEVER DO IT BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT BE ETHIC IN MY AGENDA - I have plenty of addresses that sell that paper in ANY quantity you want and thus you don't have to buy tons of it to build that effect!)

If you need some info on that (wishing you to sell all of them and needing some more paper!) just PM me.

OPPS didn't mean to quote the whole post.....I meant to quote the part about "REMOVING the picture cause $15 was too cheap then".......lol
Then the cards would all be BLANK! (?)

As far as what you are alluding to, those that own this know there isn't anything involved other than the 6 cards and the spectator.

And like you said..the idea of using the principle to cards was something no one has marketed before......
I agree with NOT using the idea of playing cards (although I DID think about it...although a $400 deck of these would be hard to sell)..LOL

I just received Bryn's mentalism effect DOUBLE DOWN, (I also ordered nearly ALL of Bryn's offerings) and I must say I was very impressed to say the least. My comments below.

OVERALL EFFECT THOUGHTS:
Folks, the thinking here is simplistic, clever and down right clean as a whistle! After ear to ear grins from learning the methods at work, my mind was racing with ideas for implementing this piece into my performance straight away. Meaning this effect, while simplistic in approach, allows plenty of room for presentation and audience interaction. Precisely where I like to focus. With proper time investment, this one effect could be a staple in any close up worker's act with ample capacity for personalization. This is powerful, logical and direct mindreading with full prop examination. Did I mention that this is going STRAIGHT into my act?!

PROPS:
Quality throughout and certainly a novel and unique set of props that fit in your pocket begging to come out and play. Could possibly last a life time with proper care and yes, completely examinable.

If you demand direct, strong mentalism which allows plenty of customization, DOUBLE DOWN has my vote.

PS. As if this effect wasn't strong enough on it's own merit, you are also treated with a bonus effect that can finalize the effect or be used stand alone.

Excellent Bryn..and hurry and send me your other goodies! Smile

All caught up on my PMs, OwenScott....

Please send it....I've been getting some GREAT routine variations and I'd love to see yours.

Happy Holidays!

Bryn

Very, very cool, OwenScott....I think I'll be using that from now on......lol..I love it.
Hope you had a great Christmas.....

Bryn Smile

I'm happy to say that this has been picked up by The Trickery.

http://www.thetrickery.com

These are great people to deal with, as I had I purchased off of them before I decided to release any of my own Mindhunter effects.
I also included a couple of sets of the "notorious" Double-Down effect that has been been reviewed very well and that should perhaps be up on the site soon also..unless gobbled up by staff.

SO I am recomending if one is to place an order of magic and mentalism OTHER than just my effects I would appreciate you supporting my endeavours by grabbing some stuff from Howard off of The Trickery as well. FAST shipping....

As always, I appreciate the orders and am glad the above two effects have been received so well.

(And as far as the "KILLER A.P.P.S. Pad?" I can only keep up with making 3-4 per week so it will not be something I wholesale off to a dealer and will be only available through my site and that will keep it somewhat exclusive. The first several have gone out in the mail in last couple of days so I am looking forward to someone writing up a review here)

Pyrexia is another one of Mindhunter's genius inventions.

Difficulty: 2 (5 being the most difficult).

Cold Reading: 5 (5 being best)

Timing: 2 (timing is important for the effect)

Overall: 4

I don't do any cold reading so I am still looking at ways to incorporate this into my routines.

Wow,.....a blast from the past on one of my most proud-of effects! (well Double-Down was THE most..and I WILL do another 52 run someday)

Thanks Candini, and not sure where you stumbled across this this late in the offering but glad you did, as I hope you are as well!...and to again answer some new Pms:
Thanks for taking the time to post...It isn't "difficult" at all although as you said there is a timing issuse (you have one minute at least in this weather!) and the cold reading thing is a bonus and not necessary to the effect at all.

All said and done, it looks like I am leaving for a miitary deployment soon and put the last remaining sets on Ebay (under user name Bladewiz) to get rid of stock, and obviously, riase some money for my PayPal account. If any Café member is interested PM or email me for a set at a reduced, for now, price. Say magic Café in your email.

Thanks,
Bryn
