While I don't really know the criteria for the distinction of what is a fruit and what is a vegetable, I do know that the tomato is a fruit.
If anyone can tell us what the difference between a vegetable and a fruit is, it would be greatly appreciated.

There is an answer here:
http://www.kdcomm.net/~tomato/debate.htm

There actually have been court cases about this:

P.S. If this was just posed to see who would respond... then I just got sucked in.

It seems that the public still views this as a vegetable, however botanically it is a fruit. I think it is a fruit if it has seeds. Therefore CUCUMBERS ARE FRUITS!

It's a fruit since it is a member of the berry family.

Who was it that corrected a youngster's spelling of tomato to add the 'e' ?

JonTown, it was Vice President Dan Quayle who corrected a students spelling of potato by adding an e.

If seeds are a requirement of fruits then most vegetables are fruits ie: carrots, radish, broccoli and so on and so forth.

Did you also know that the tomato is a close relative of the marijuana plant? Strange but true.

The requirement for fruit is that it has seeds in it.
Eg. Apples, oranges, and tomatoes. Carrots, radish's, and brocoli, to my knowledge, don't have seeds in them.

Yes, having planted many carrots I can tell you with confidence that carrots have seeds and so do radish's, eggplant, most squash and pea's are the seeds themselves. Are these fruit?
I had a wart on my hand as a child and the doctor said that all of the seeds had to be removed or the wart would return. Is a wart a fruit?

I'm sure there are some other possibilities for something beyond 'fruit' and 'vegetable'.
