Get a kid from the audience and then have him/her walk through a brick wall using a "cartoon hole"...

That would be so cool!

I saw this awhile back and thought it was cool..

I think that the reason that this works so well is because it is our doors and it is believable.

If you had a brick wall on stage, not sure they would think it were real. And would it then shock them when a kid disappeared?

The kid wouldn't just disappear, he would reappear, just like DC's "13". At the back.

I'm sure it could be done well if someone really wanted to.

Yes - this is even better then David Copperfield's Walking through the Great Wall of China.

Houdini was also supposed to have walled through brick walls.

The video is fun to watch, but as stated, no good for theater, even if things can be seen under it. Just gives more ways of solving the trick. Trap Doors, mirrors, etc. Does not matter if they are right or not, it is all in the possibility of solving and guessing.

The only way you could prove them wrong was by revealing your method, and that is not magic as it should be.

I can think of two ways to do this onstage without revealing the method.

Both are already in use in illusions now.

But alas, they're expensive and I'm a Mentalist now.

It would've been fun to attempt this a few years back.

Cyril did a smaller version of this when he did his burger trick onstage, after doing it on the street.

Copperfield's Walking Through A Mirror also had a great "examinable" approach albeit with a different technique than I would use.

I still believe this would wow and inspire if performed onstage.

It can be done.

Just reverse engineer it, what would it take to convince you that all was fair?

Go from there.

Onstage you'd make the brick wall the back wall of the stage. You'd have all the curtains pulled all the way to the back. You'd do some other trick or illusion first out in front of the "back wall" to take the onus off of having just revealed it. Maybe two other tricks. THEN you'd do this one. Could be done, depending upon where the loading dock is...or depending upon the ability to "jog" the back wall...or add decorative or "load bearing" pillars or pylons. Could be done a little farther downstage, too, depending upon the angles.

Sure, great idea but I was thinking of a Copperfield-type walking through a brick wall routine.

With a kid from the audience.

Magician could walk through first then beckon him/her to follow.

Then they both vanish as the assistants peel of the 'hole' from the wall a few seconds later.

Appearing at the back through a different area where the 'hole' is placed would complete it nicely.

That would be so cool...

Copperfield could do that if he wanted to.
