First up: this is a pre-order, so nobody has this yet.
I have seen it; Luis explained it during EMC 2012. It's great, however, I don't really see a difference with the classic routine as popularized by Johnny Thompson. |

That's a great handling. The egg bag is one of my favorite stand up and walkaround pieces to perform. The first time I saw it live was a performance by Marc DeSouza and it fried me as a new magician. I really liked the displays he used, especially the full palm rub and the final push down vanish. I've never seen those before. I learned the egg bag by working it one weekend at two five hour walkaround gigs- ten hours total. As soon as the crowds were big, I did the egg bag bag. It really is one of the greatest effects in magic. If you're thinking of purchasing the effect, I think this is an excellent resource because of the very clear three phase routine you get with the bag.

And you give the chick away to the participant at the end!
Seriously, how many people are going to take a chick home with them....come on?! I really liked his handling, but giving the chick away...? Maybe things like that are done in Portugal but is anyone in the USA or UK going to be doing that? I doubt it.

If you have seen Charlie Miller or Johnny Thompson perform this (Stevens DVD's) it is clear that Mr. DeMatos is not qualified to teach it and could use a little more practice before performing it in public. He misuses or misperforms incredibly fooling moves as fake exposure and explanation moves. A pity.

Agree Martino completely on the chick bit. I think it is extremely unethical in the first place to use baby chickens in magic routines since it is obvious that they will not being taken care of when they grow too big to fit into their "load object"... I always hated Johnny Ace Palmer for this and now I can add Luis DeMatos into this list... Would have expected better from a such calibre performer...

Isn't it possible that they gave her the chick "to take home" as theater, that she didn't really take it home? (That is to say, I don't think she really was to take it home.)
Others in magic history have "given away an animal" but traded for chocolates or something after the show. So...getting back to the routine...are you certain that Luis didn't extensively practice the routine that he subjectively chose to perform? Every magish doesn't have to do The Egg Bag in the same way, yes?
Like Bonnie Raitt said, "I miss Little Feat more than I miss being 8 years old." Thanks for the concerts + recordings, Lowell, Richie, and Paul!

Hello everyone!
Thank you so much for your interest in this project. If you get a chance to watch it you'll find all the above issues mentioned and addressed in the best way I could. All the best from Portugal! Luis |

I agree about not giving away the chick at the end- that's just silly. There are many great final loads for an egg bag routine.

I've been searching and it appears that no magic dealers have this item in stock anymore.

Phatmeat,
Perhaps you're looking at the wrong place. Go to the site: Essential Magic Collection. |

John, it's true that you can still purchase it directly from the source, and the EMC site the only place I found that it's still available. I just meant that no dealers are currently carrying stock for this item and some have even listed it as discontinued. So it appears that the EMC site is the only option at the moment. It just comes out to be a bit expensive for international customers like me when you take shipping into account.

That is what happens when a plethora of magic tricks are marketed each day/month. There is no room for last years items. Being the wholesaler does not have this in stock, you can only get it from the source.
I was going to suggest you ask your favorite magic dealer to order it for you, but being the wholesaler does not have it as well, this will not be possible. They don't like international postage as well. |
