For a while Impromptu card magic seemed to really own because of the "no set-up" feature and ease of transitioning from one effect to another. Now the trend seems to be leaning more towards the hands-off and self-working card magic tricks. The problem MOST people seem to have is the set-up. Some have really involved set-ups and others only need a small stack or even a single gimmicked card.
So some of these effects without sleight-of-hand have a closer quality and can be quite difficult to do on the fly. So a simple deck switch is probably used or you open with non-card related items. How do you ring in the more involved set-ups? Do you have a preferred method? |

There are a lot of full deck stack tricks which are FANTASTIC but you are left trying to find a place to use it. One awesome tip Simon Aronson taught me was to have the stacked deck in your pocket your want to switch in with a rubber band wrapped around it. Do a trick before with your regular deck that just involves a few cards. For instance, from the regular deck remove the few cards you need and then wrapped an identical rubber band around it and stick in the same pocket as your stacked deck. After you finish the small effect reach into your pocket and remove the stacked deck. The rubber band keeps the continuity and looks great.
But for self working stuff I typical use, that uses a stack, is usually only a small stack. I start with it on bottom of the deck and shuffle (careful shuffling ofcourse!) and then perform a couple effects that don’t require the stacked cards. Then when you want to end I cut the stack to where it needs to start. This is nice because it will make the self working effect even more deceptive! Ryan FYI.... for a killer full deck stacked effect check out Marc Desouza die of destiny. I do it differently but the idea is great. |
