So, I finished a performance last week and had an uncharacteristically awkward ending. After getting the applause I usually expect with my closing effect, the kind of sat there, as if expecting more. "That's it, folks, good night!" just seemed a bit...wrong. It got me thinking that I need a better way to let the audience know that Elvis has left the building.
How do you end your shows? Thanks! -Tom

Hello Tom..!
When I usually perform up on stage I usually do shows that are in the range of 10 minutes. This means that I don't really have a lot of awkward situations for the ending, because there is usually somebody else who is performing after me. However, if I get to perform in a stage that is quite big, I usually tell the fact that its my last act when the magic is happening. When performing a mentalism effect, before I end by guessing the right card (as an example), I say... "If I guess this card right, the audience will be amazed, and I will go back to my house for a quick rest" In any other way is fine, a bit of a joke.. or even just a solid sentence helps your ending. When the show is actually done (when you guessed their card), you say ... "Ladies and Gentlemen, I'll be able to go back to my house again".. and just finish off the show with a bow. This is how I usually end a big show, hope it helps!! |

What I like to do, is to thank everyone for their attention and applauses without saying much in the most honest and caring way, is nice to give some love back.

Before the last two effects at the end of the performance I tell a story about my grandfather and how important time is and I thank the audience for their time
The last effect I do is large and colorful, the audience knows the end of the performances been reached. I simply say thank you and bow
