What would be a good Christian word or phrase to use to make the magic/illusion happen? Abracadabra and hocus pocus are to closely tied to secular magic.

I have NEVER had anyone object to those words...but you want to be careful with what you choose as a "Christian magic word" as you may send up howls of protest that you are too closely tying the miraculous power of Christ to "magic". It's a fine tight rope to walk, and you don't want to fall off.

...and actually, you REALLY don't even need a magic word. I only use it with the coloring book routine so as to involve the entire audience.

I agree with Mike ... you don't want to run the risk of offending anyone. So be very careful if choosing a Christian "magic" word. Better to stick the usual "fun" magic words like Purple Puppy Chow. Or if you're doing a themed show, choose a magic word or phrase which fits your theme.

Just for the record, I have never had anyone object to Abracadabra or Hocus Pocus.

As I am doing the first trick after my "open" I tell everyone to say he magic word with me. Oh we haven't picked a magic word. After asking everyone to yell out a magic word I always tell kids and adults the most magical words ever used are"Please and Thank You!" I tell the children if they want to see magic happen with mom and dad those are the words to use. So the rest of the program to make the magic happen we all yell "Please and Thank You"

Many times I just count 1,2,3 and they usually count with me. I know that is not always compatible with the trick but just a suggestion. Other times if I am telling a story with a trick, I just make the moves with the trick to coincide with the story.

I have always liked Ginn's method of using silly foods like liver and onions with chocolate sauce. The children love the silly combinations and the silliness removes the stigma of "magic words."

My answer is similar to the answer that ChrisG gave above.

During my gospel shows, I lean towards using the words "Please and Thank you" as my magic words. I tell the audience that those were the magic words that my parents taught me. Smile

Hi _ I usually just snap my fingers - or go (sound- poof-poof-blow) - or - flick all your fingers out -to and from the direction you want the Magic(?) to happen - no words needed. Ralph

"Purple Puppy Chow" (David Ginn's magical phrase) was printed in the latest issue of MUM- author/SAM President/and all around nice guy Dal Sanders (who we had a great time with on the 2013 Creativity at Sea Cruise) probably heard it from David, who knows. Of course, Mark Wilson's "magic word" always was the name of his sponsor, like "Wonder Bread" (or whoever).

You could use the words used by 'EL GREGO' a magician here in New Zealand -
"I HOPE IT WORKS" ???

I have the "magic" happen as part of the story or testimony.

For instance right as the rope becomes whole, I talk about His outstretched hands, as my hands go out to my sides.

Other times I use magic sounds...as in a phone ringing as the 3 ropes become the same side.

I then go into a short phone routine treating the rope as an "old fashion phone".
