Thread Bill by Francis Menotti

http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/3640

An amazing effect that allows you to visually PULL the serial number off a borrowed dollar.

Francis Menotti's Thread Bill is an amazing effect that allows you to visually PULL the serial number off a borrowed dollar bill and leave your audience with an unforgettable, impossible souvenir.

You start by borrowing a bill from your spectator and asking her to remember the serial number. You then begin to "pull" the ink slowly off the bill! The bill can immediately be handed out revealing that the serial number is now missing from the bill.

Important Points:
- uses borrowed bill
- ends clean
- impossible souvenir

Here it is again Mark, maybe this will help you comprehend a simple effect?

Well that was some natural handling right there. Also, when will people learn to use the word "visual" properly?

It certainly was!

You can tell he's been doing this for years.

Looks like a worker.

I thought I'd seen some poor bill switches recently, but this one? Whatever happened to the off-beat? Why do some bizzare kind of yoga to switch a bill?

The concept is quite nice, but the execution?

I remember when the work on this was for a time travel effect, I LOVED!
I don't know why he changed it. I guess to make it more practical, as the other had a setup.

I would still love to fully learn his time travel version though, as a certain part always eluded me.

I prefer the bit Williamson did as removing a person's signature. I believe it's on a DVD somewhere.

Can anyone answer after the thread is pulled and the numbers vanish, if the letters in the beginning and end of the serial number always match the spectators original bill? Or what is shown in the video the best case scenario? And- what do you do after the serial number vanishes? Do you hand the bill back to the spectator without the serial numbers or do you have to "put them back on"?

Thanks,
RNK

RNK - I don't have this, but I would assume calling attention to a detail like this, happens after "a secret event" takes place...

I do agree- I guess after watching the demo- the video must cut out when that part happens because it looks like from the video that when the spectator hands the bill over to the magician that is the bill that is used. But obviously that can't be the case. Thanks.

True, it does appear that the serial is shown before the work is done.
It's all in the reflexes.

The letter and number, OTHER than the serial can be far more common; especially in certain areas.

Not saying that has ANYTHING to do with how he accomplishes this.
Just saying it is not that impossible to pull off. (Akk. I made an unintentional pun) Smile

I think Francis does some amazing magic. His egg bag is one of the best I've ever seen. This effect doesn't really seem like a great effect to me. It's quirky and quick but it leaves me thinking "eh." The handling on the trailer was not his best work.
