You guys know any deals with a good and complete collection of mentalism and cold reading books? I am trying to buy:

But I am unable to find a dealer with all these books, and if I order them seperately it gets quite expensive because of the location I am at for the shipping. Hey Abraham,
The book from Bob Cassidy can only be ordered through his site. Refer to the other thread you posted. It's unlikely that you can find a dealer that carry all these books, but try those: http://www.misdirections.com http://www.dennymagic.com Send them an email first, maybe they can get them for you even if they are not on the list. Judging by your other thread "Trying to get into mentalism - materials", I sense that you're now trying to learn cold reading as well, right? My advice to you, for what is worth, is to learn a system. Buy some shut-eye books on palmistry or numerology, tarot; choose one system and go with it. Read Craig Browning articles on Visions. They will give you some basics on how to properly learn cold reading. If you're not new to readings then ignore this last part. Bruno M. |

Thanks for the reply Bruno, I am now trying to order from misdirection.com. They have basically all of the books I want. Thank you very much. I also ordered the "full fact book on cold reading". I was hoping there would be a system in there to learn from. If not, would you recommend one to me? Thanks a million, sincerely.

You will find no system in the Full Facts book. In fact, the author suggests that you not bother to learn one.
However, learning a traditional system such as palmistry or Tarot is the best start in the right direction. These books are found in any major bookseller in the occult or New Age sections. I recommend Richard Webster's "Revealing Hands" for a nice introduction to palmistry, a very practical and effective system to learn. Joe Z.

Try H and R magic or Stevens. I know both carry a large selection of coldreading books. Denny's has mine as well and may have the others. I know he carries Kenton's material.

Not only that, learning a traditional system is just easier to put into practice as there is no mental jogging involved to recall scripted lines that may or may not fit. Just read what's in front of you! You'll be surprised at how accurate these things can be. You'll also be surprised at how many lay people know about palmistry, Tarot etc.. and if you can't "walk the talk", you'll just embarrass yourself depending on CR only. jr |

Respectfully Jim, though what you say is true, I think it points to a misconception of what cold reading truly is about. In the Dance I try to dispell many of the myths surrounding cold reading and beleive that scripted lines have no place in it. Also, even in using the best systems you find the techniques of true cold reading being used as they are essential to the process of interpretation and communication of symbolic structures. So, I think an understanding of the nature of cold reading can only help someone getting started, the key is in coming to terms with what that really is. To use a system only is basically to read with one eye closed.

IMO, if a competent reader uses a traditional system alone (i.e., without knowledge of the lines and strategies outlined in many cold reading texts), he/she can deliver a very credible and satisfying psychic reading.
However, if a person well-versed in cold reading lines and strategies tries to use them outside the structure of and without knowledge of a credible system, I believe his/her use of cold reading will be considerably less effective. Without some kind of practiced system or framework, cold reading strategies can often appear obvious and lack a feeling of veracity. At least that is my experience as a long-time professional reader. As for "The Dance," I feel this book is one of the best investments a newbie or even a seasoned reader can make if they wish to move forward in this aspect of the mystery craft. Joe Z.
