The last thing I need is to add new card tricks to my repertoire. The strength of Ackermans card work is his attention to detail. There are so many wonderful moves and subtleties that can be used to make your card magic more powerful. This was a great lecture that will take a long time to fully digest. I have my eyes on several ideas to increase my arsenal and will take them one at a time.

Quote: I use Allan Ackerman's Quick Coincidence which uses Bill Simon's Business Card Prophecy move that was taught on one of the Michael Ammar ETMCM DVDs. Strong move with a lot of applications. Great to hear it was a good lecture, thanks for writing back.

The Business Card Prophecy in Ackerman's Quick Coincidence, from Ammar's ETMCM, the young lady places a card near the bottom of the deck and after the move it's now near the top.
Allan taught the method by Jim Patton and Bruce Cervon. Wherever they place the card.....that's where it is after the move. There's no change in the orientation. |

Yes, Zombie, you are correct. Allan taught this really deceptive and convincing technique along with so many others that it was a bit overwhelming... in a good way! You know, as host I have to keep track of everything that is being taught so I can interact intelligently (that's the real illusion!) and prepare a thorough re-cap. Honestly, the amount of material that Mr. Ackerman was able to include in his lecture is mind-boggling. I suggest taking the time to careful dissect each of the pieces, and spend a little extra time with each of his moves, and you'll truly appreciate what a massive amount of high-quality magic is contained in this one lecture. Personally, my favorite is the Technicolor Splits (where the four odd-backed Kings instantly find four selected card) which I believe is strong enough to close any set of card magic... and, it's not difficult, nearly self-working!

Dan, you're an incredible host. You put your own ego aside to enhance each and every lecture. You're always adding bits of information without ever taking credit. Sorry, but I had to say it. Keep up the good work. It's well appreciated.

To host a show as Dan does it, you have to have enormous talent and possess the biggest asset: common sense. The task is probably more taxing than what the guest lecturer experiences. |

Definitely agree that Dan has been amazing to have. You just seem to ask questions I am thinking.
But back on topic. I am 1/3 way through and loving Ackerman's lecture. Top notch thinking and love how he just tosses out gold like it is nothing. Pay attention or you just might miss awesomeness. Ryan |

If you are only 1/3 of the way through, it only gets better. I watched the whole thing and started watching it again and this time, I'm taking notes.

"Opening Stab" by Steve Beam ( Card Tricks from Mount Olympus ) uses the Business Card Prophecy. With Allan's teaching the method by Jim Patton and Bruce Cervon, there's no displacement.
You take out a small envelope and they can stab it anywhere into the deck. Open the envelope and the mate to the card they "stabbed" to is inside. Or the card inside the envelope can have a different color back, but is the same value ( that's how I do it ). They made a new promo video showing a bit of the lecture: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/3747 |

Such a great lecture and the first time I've ever seen Mr Ackerman or seen any of his work. He is now going to be required reading. I'm loving these Penguin lectures because I've been hearing these guys names for so many years but never caught up with their stuff...to see them performing it - and to finally see why everyone holds them in such high regard - has been eye opening and really, really exciting and fun. And the next time someone rags on me for 'not' being a working magician and only being 'a hobbyist'...I'm going to direct them to this lecture. That little bit of info *** near blew my mind after watching the man in action. Urgh...yep...I'm gong to have to go watch it again, aren't I? Just brilliant. Steph |
