Any coin supplied by the performer may be suspect, but spectators do not always have useful coins with them. So, I have mused on how to allow the audience to select the coin(s) to be used in an entertaining way.
Yesterday I got the chance with a sudden inspiration and got a great reaction -- plus a puzzled look from a magician friend in the group. Maybe it is not new. Comments welcome. VANISHING CHOICE EFFECT: In an impromptu setting you extract a fistful of change from your pocket and drop on the table. A spectator names their favorite coin type, e.g. dime, quarter, etc. from the assortment. Two of the chosen coin are picked up by the right fingers and one dropped into the empty left palm. One coin is openly displayed on each palm and your fists close. A spectator selects which coin is to be used and which is to disappear. Both hands are instantly displayed open. The selected hand still holds a single coin, while the other is empty! You now perform an effect with the single coin. no gimmicks and can be performed in a bathing suit.

Interesting. Are you thinking of marketing the method?

All natural -- and I would even be willing to have two spectators hold the coins, then have one of them vanish as above.
That is, two spectators each hold one of the audience selected coins. Another spectator choses which coin will vanish -- and it does. That assistant holds nothing and the other the "charged" coin. Impossible? Yup - that's why I do it.
